Hey ya'll! I recently was diagnosed with lyme after seven or so years of doctor visits.

I'm 19 and in college, so naturally treatment hasn't been helping my grades. My brain fog is worse, my fatigue is worse, and my insomnia is much worse.

I've already had to drop most of my classes to where I only have 6 hours. I am also definitely taking next semester off to really focus on getting well.

I was taking am exam earlier today and had the hardest time comprehending the questions. I had to reread each question at least ten times just to grasp part of it. The words were not registering in my brain AT ALL.

It's been a real adjustment for me from being one of the top students in class...and now to this - its definitely taking a toll on my self-esteem.

I guess I'm just having a hard time watching/ feeling myself deteriorate, not being able to do anything about it, yet sit back and watch all of these healthy college kids go on about their day.

I feel like I'm loosing some of the best years of my life.

Smarte

You sounds just like me. It is almost as if you are telling the story of my life to me. The reality sets in for me a little bit.

7 years is unacceptable. I ended up having to drop out of college because my IQ dropped about 100 points.

Like you I could not make sense of what I was reading. It just didn't register in my brain no matter how many times I tried reading it.

And when it came to remembering the material? Forget about it.

But do me a favor and don't lose hope and sight of what you will become.

This predicament may have a big impact on your life but remember it's only temporary and you'll learn so much. It's quite the experience.

I'm an Advocate

welcome smarte; hard not to finish it with smarty-pants! lol Laughing

humor helps us get thru this long road to REMISSION; so thanks for bearing with me ... laughing with you; not at you.

at least you got the correct dx now; i waited 35 long working years to get myself to this point out of 42 yrs. with chronic lyme.

hope you can get thru this semester.

you may be off MORE than 1 semester; we can't plan the amount of time to get us well; lyme/co-infections have their own time table of how much damage the spirochetes have done in HIDING in every orifice in our bodies to get the meds to that specific area.

i'll copy/paste my brief welcome to you below; have a more detailed one in SUPPORT as a push pin for WELCOME LETTER full of info needed now/later ... just a start to what is available on this board with 7 areas of subject topics to chose from.

hugs/prayers, bettyg, leader

• OTHER STATES will show the SPECIFIC NAME OF THEIR STATE and closest, largest city to them in SUBJECT line plus adult or child; UNDER 21; we need their age!.

Betty’s suggested posting guidelines:

Many of members have neuro lyme, and it is hard to read long solid block text and be able to comprehend; example, me, 42 yrs. neuro chronic lyme, so we are UNABLE to comprehend and read. Thank you for helping us help YOU Wink

please post in short paragraphs like you see below or look at a few other posts, but we neuro folks need them short.

1-2 sentences MAX per paragraph and hit ENTER TWICE to doublespace between each paragraph. We’ve lost our comprehension skills to read solid block text.

we neuros lose our train of thought if the sentence is broken up in the middle; so please keep an ENTIRE sentence together as ONE. hugs

For easier reading, please edit your post. You can break up your longer paragraphs into smaller paragraphs. Please hit ENTER key twice after each paragraph.

Go to left hand corner; click edit send. Then go to bottom and click SUBSCRIBE TO THIS DISCUSSION.

Thank you for posting in a manner that makes it easier for all to read and help others.

Weasey: how are you doing now?? Did you go back and finish college? It's good to know I'm not the only one who had to completely put their life on pause. The hardest part is finding something meaningful to do with yourself every day..

Bettyg: I know! The university I attend assigned that email to me by using my first and last name, it's funny it sounds like "smarty. And I also know that I might have to take more time off from school than just a semester but fingers crossed I'll be decent by next September. Thanks for all your support!

Your life sounds like it's starting out a little like mine. Mono in my 4th semester of college, hospital, Navy, pony smashed some ribs, punched a hole in my foot (more hospital), hurt my back with a 55gal barrel of oil, horse landed on me (chest on chest) with more broke ribs and a shoulder out and now Lime.

There'll always be good times in between and you have a lot of time for them!

I'm very progressive! As of recently, I've been herxing pretty badly though..

I have not gone back to college nor have I gone back to work. I'd LOVE to be able to socialize with people but things are different at the moment..

I usually dedicate my time to my website or play my guitar.. They both are very meaningful to me.
