MDJunction to me

"All I can say is that this has been the best place ever. It has been six to seven months since I joined, and I have learned so much. I now believe in myself and accept myself on a completely different level. The people on MDJunction has been so supportive and accepting that I have been able to adopt it into my personal life. That has reduced a lot of stress in my life. Thanks to all." (bunnyfly)

I have been so tired and it has been so hard for me to be productive at work....and some days I just can't even get up to get there. I do billing and medical records so it's not like I have to be moving all day, but I just can't do it most days.

I have been thinking about Short Term Disability. Do I actually have to stop working before I can apply for it? Do you guys know what the qualifications are for us with Lyme to get it? I just may need to temporarily stop work while I am being treated because it is getting so hard. I am on my second course of Doxy. I have had Lyme for almost 4 years. Not really feeling an improvement...worse if anything. I missed a couple of days this week of work because I felt like my brain was floating and I couldn't move too much or I would have to throw up.

Thanks for the help!

I wish I had answers, someone will hopefully come along and help you. When I looked into it, I hadn't worked long enough and gotten enough credits to even apply (um duh, I"ve been sick since I was 9!!!!) So now my husband supports 4 of us on one income, it gets tight, then add in our medical treatment... this nation is getting out of hand.... can you tell what kind of mood I"m in today...haha
Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Hi:

You will have to have your doctor put you on the medical leave (I am asking for one today)...Its pretty tuff tho, as doctors don't belive we have Chronic Lyme...All the doctor has to do it, fill out some paper work and then you give it to your HR department. At my work you can go on Short Term Medical leave and get 68% of your pay. After the short term they put you on long term.

Lyme will not win, we will and we WILL…

All you need to do is have your doctor put you on a medical leave. Then your WORK will have to pay you a percent of your income. THis is not SS...

Thank you, Julie. I may have to look into to...I hope not, though. I'd rather just get better

I would look into that, but I don't think that they have to give you leave or pay you anything, but things are different from state to state. I have been in the disability process for three years now. Unfortunately, it will generally ruin your life before it helps you. I would explain the situation to your employer and see if they can help you with some time off and maybe a sebatical, If you feel like you truly can't work but wanna see if you can get better I would leave my job and collect unemployment for that period of time and then if you still don't see any improvement you can start the disability process. I have been looking into these things for years now and as far as I can tell in our country there really isn't any such thing as temporary disability, which I know doesn't make any sense. Basically if you were diagnosed with Cancer tomorrow, you would apply for the same thing whether you die tomorrow or are better in two years. It sucks. To prove disbabilty you have to have your doctor agree that you can't work 40 hours a week at ANY job. If they feel that there is a job somewhere on this Earth they expect you to do it. I know that this all sounds really awful, but I'm just trying to give you your best options?

I am currently going through the process. You can go to the Social Security website for forms and information. My LLMD helped me fill out the forms for better wording. I figure it's worth the shot, I can't lose anything by trying.
