Why wear a ribbon?

MDJunction to me

"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

I went to an ID over a week ago...he put me on my 2nd course of doxy, without having seen my bloodwork for the Lyme. I faxed it to him a few days after I saw him and have been calling him alllll week to see what he thought of the bloodwork and results. I can't get a callback from this man!

I want to know if my low WBC, lower than usual platelets (about 40,000 lower), lower than usual thyroid and high monocytes are from the Lyme, or should I be looking further into this? My Western Blot was positive IgM, with P41 and P23 bands and the IgG was negative, with only the P41 band. I was infected Aug 2004.

Has anyone else's bloodwork showed anything like this?

My ID was also a jerk and did not know a lot about Lyme, he said he was the best ID in town (well, he is the only one). He also told me that with only IGM it had to be an early infection. Thank god I manage to convince him to put me on an two week IV antibiotics! He is now so fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness! That is what I want to know is about the IgM only being positive because I know I have had this since Aug 04. And to answer the other question...my primary is the one that took the bloodwork, but she was getting ready to go on maternity leave and never even bothered to talk to me about my WBC being low and my platelets dropping....so......

Still on my own!

Thanks for the replies!

As I understand Igm are usually the first to show up and Igg usually tells you that you have a later infection. I was really sick, with only Igm and at least 2-3 months had passed since I was exposed to Lyme, I had also had Lyme before and was concerened I might have a Chronic Lyme. I have read that the incubation period for Lyme is between 2-4 weeks, is that right? I talked to a LLMD and he said that it is fully possible to only had Igm even if you have a chronic infection.(as well as a negative Western Blot).

There is also a false positive and I think Center for Disease Control states if you only have IGM and symtoms are still there a month after antibiotic treatment you might have a false positiv. This was really my case and I asked my ID and he snapped at me and said:You have Lyme, did not even want to discuss the possibilities. Again , as a lot of us have learned Lyme is hard to diagnose with diagnostic methods and should alse be diagnosed clinically.

I am now convinced that I had Lyme and I am recovering but much slower than I was hoping for. What is the status of the new DNA tests for Lyme, we really need a better tool. Anyone with experience of those newer tests?

If you have to choose good or bad, I would think the most likely to choose is good. As far as I understand just having Igm is a pretty good sign that you caught have th infection in an early stage and the odds to have a successful treatment with antibiotics is good.

I think this disease is so unpredictable. After experiencing lyme-like symptoms for over 1 1/2 years (basically I was on as wild goose chase trying to figure out what was wrong with me) As one last shot in the dark, I finally decided to send my blood off to IGENEX. The IGENEX test came back IGG positive. At this point I still wasn't convinced it was lyme disease. Three months later I developed an erythema migrans, doctor put me back on doxy. After finishing the doxy, I went back to doctor for a follow up. I asked my doctor to retest me again for lyme; this time my test came back IGM positive through Quest. Now I AM CONVINCED that I have lyme disease. I still have no idea when I was bitten and at what stage I am at with this disease. It is a very confusing and complicated disease.

I had the bull's eye rash in Aug of 2004, and have spent the last 3 years or so trying every angle to treat all of my different symptoms. Sleep disorders (no REM sleep and about 20% of "sleep", I am awake....per 3 sleep studies), pain in back showing arthritis and osteoporosis, clicking and pain in my neck, chronic headaches, pain in my eyes...not allowing me to wear contacts for the past 4 months now or so, depression...at times feeling suicidal...especially the past year....etc, so on and so forth...

I have tried meds and treatments and nothing has worked for anything. So, I am sure I have had this Lyme for over 3 years now. I just wish I had a good doctor!

Hang in there lisa3! It can be very frustrating. I have basically been treating myself with herbs since I don't currently have a lyme-literate doctor. My general practitioner just treats my symptoms and has basically done nothing to aggressively attack the lyme bacteria which I don't agree with. I think when you just treat the symptoms and don't attack what's causing the symptoms (the nasty lyme bacteria) it just covers up the disease and gives those nasty buggers a chance to multiply.
