Dear Mittens, I have severe nerve pain and was given a rather large dose (3000 mgs) of Neurontin last year. I'll spare you the long story, but it turned me into a suicidal zombie (although it DID help with the pain) and I gained 30 pounds in 5 weeks! Yes, that's right. THIRTY POUNDS IN FIVE WEEKS! That made me even MORE depressed! So, I ended up getting off the "Morontin" and started Lyrica. Now I will say that after my horrific experience with Neurontin, I was SOOO afraid of the Lyrica because the side fx can be the same. However, even though I'm supposed to take 3 x the amount, I have stayed on 75 mgs for over 5 months now and have NOT GAINED ANY WEIGHT. (That was a HUGE concern for me too!) In February, I went on the Martha's Vineyard 21 day Detox Diet (someone else on this forum told me about it) and lost most of the weight gain. WIth the low dose of Lyrica, I haven't gained any which is great. Now as far as nerve pain, it's a trade off, because the lower dose keeps my pain a little higher than before - whereas on the higher dose of Neurontin - the pain relief was a lot better. But I would rather endure some pain than feel like a zombie with an extra 30 pounds! I hope that helps! Sandie IgM Western Blot
