Is it possible to have a false positive for Lyme Disease if you have Epstien Bar? That is what a dr. told my daughter and now her husband doesn't believe she has Lyme! She had the test done at Igenex and one of the test had a triple positive.

Anyone have an answer??

thanks

No Lyme Disease test is completely accurate. They are known to provide false positive ang negative results. They are, in my opinion, useless. She should see a LLMD (Lyme Literate Medical Doctor). They specialize in L.D. and can diagnose and treat patients without a positive test. Lyme disease is a strictly clinical diagnosis.

Very true, but aren't false positives really very rare? I guess relative to say, false negatives (or seronegative) which are very common? I agree that the tests are a waste of alot of valuable resources that ld sufferers don't have--time, money,energy..

But I also understand that Igenex is extremely reliable, for some very important scientific reasons.

I am so sorry that you son-in-law doesn't believe her. My marriage of 15 years (we've been together for 22) was really put to the test as I was misdiagnosed for 7 years. There were times when he didn't 'believe' I was nearly as sick as I was/am.

Please tell him for me that I hope it doesn't take what happened to me to happen to his wife before he becomes a believer. I am now barely functioning, about to have to file SSD, rarely go out socially, had to cut my education short, am on morphine for pain, which is barely helping....Our life, our marriage, our family will never be the same.

Before this, I owned my own business, took college classes, volunteered with several projects, was raising two children and helping two adult step-children, cleaned our 5,000 sq foot house by myself, made love with my husband several times a week, went out dancing at least once a week with him, and on and on.

He now realizes what I've been going through. It would have made all the difference in the world to have had my best friend in my corner from the beginning. In fact, (and I haven't said this to my husband), I may well have had the courage to fight for the medical help I needed years sooner if I didn't have to fight my life partner for support too.

As a mama, my heart aches for you, too, lateeda. It must be so hard to watch her go through this. Each of you will be in my prayers.

I have read that Lupus can cause a false positve for Syphilis and I have also read that because syphilis is so closely related to lyme disease that Lupus can also cause a false positive for Lyme Disease. But I haven't heard anything regarding EBV

I tested positive for Lyme through Igenex. I have been retested since and I have Lyme plus 3 co-infections and EBV.

It's pretty common for Lymies to have other ailments.

Did you test positive for co-inections via Igenex?? I'm having all tests done via another lab....For some reason all you hear is positive via ignext, and it sometimes makes we wonder...
