I've been taking Oxycodone 5 mg up to 3 times a day for 6 months and feel guilty about it but its the only thing thats helped my pain. I worry my Doc. will cut me off eventually because he's not a pain specialist. I'm afraid of what might happen. I've tried a pain center and got disgusted by the long waits and the patients I saw there that mostly looked like "drug addicts". I don't want to have that stigma and feel my Doc will think I'm addicted. I just want to relieve the pain. There seems to be very few doctors where i live that will prescribe pain meds.I had to plead with family doctor. I've also tried Methadone to help get off the Oxy but it just made me more messed up. I'm looking for a substitute for the opioids but want to know how to detox .Should I continue to find a pain Doctor in another state maybe and try another safer pain med?

Also, i see a nuerologist next week for my headaches and nerve pain. Has anyone seen one and did they help you? Lost and confused.

First of all, don't feel bad about taking the pain meds. There are many studies that people actually IN pain metabolize them differently and are much less likely to get addicted. I struggled with this too. I was miss all natural. and when the pain got so bad that I had to turn to narcotics, I was scared to death. There are also studies that clearly point out, if your body is in untollerable pain, it CAN NOT HEAL. So you could do all the treatmetns you wanted to, but your body is too busy fighting the pain to even care about anything else.

I have read where ribose is good for pain, and fatigue for fibro pateints.... and fibro is a symptom of lyme, I just started taking it. I also just started taking Lyrica, we'll see what happens. I too want to get off the pain meds, but have resolved myself to getting well. I live in an area too, where not many docs prescribe them, and I'm very lucky my doc does. Any pain mangament docs here are injection happy, and as I'm sure you know, steroids are a BIG NO NO for lyme. So don't turn that way for relief.

There are different herbs you can take to help ween yourself off, but one thing you need to be careful with is going slow. Cut back to 2 a day for a month, and so on. VERY SLOW is key here. If you are in that much pain, I would suggest staying on them for now, you are in lyme treatment right? Get thru that, it's stressfull enough on your body, then worry about weaning yourself off.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.
