MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

I do have lyme, tested positive in July, for the last 3 months every 28-30 days I would get very sick, miss work, just completelt down for over a week, I have joint pain, the funny undescriable feeling in my back , headaches almost daily, but so far this month I have not been extremly sick, ( I'm very glad ! ) but my question is, is this stuff hiding out ? Why did it have a pattern for months and now so far it's ok ? I do know the very first time of being sick, taking about 6 weeks to feel halfway decent again it was about 7 weeks before it came back hard again.

It sounds like you were experiencing a Herx every 4 weeks, roughly. That's a typical pattern for a Herx. Were you on treatment during that time, and are you currently on treatment? It's hard to know if that's what's going on, though it sounds like it. If it was a Herx, that is the toxins produced by the dying off of the bacteria, and it produces symptoms consistant with whatever your actual most severe Lyme symptoms are. Each of us tends to be a little bit different, tho we are similar.

However, it would be easier to answer the question if I had more info from you. If you are still in treatment, I'd say that you may either no longer be experiencing a Herx, which could indicate that you are getting better, which is great, or your Herx could be lengthening out, as they sometimes do. The pattern is typically a 4-week pattern, but it can be a 4-6 week pattern.

If you were in treatment and aren't, then my guess would be that you are no longer killing the bacteria, thus no longer producing toxins, hence no more Herx. If you weren't in treatment before, and still aren't, I can't explain it, and if you weren't in treatment before and are now, then perhaps you are getting better.

I think I covered all the bases! LOL

Hope that helped at least a little. If you can expand on your entry and give us a little more info, I think we can help you more.

*hugs* and here's hoping you stay feeling good!

Jen

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

I was not on antibiotics that whole time, I always did herx when I was on them. It just seemed it was running a regular pattern and apparenting now it's not. I have read it cycles about every 28-30 days.

Hard questions to answer, you could be in "remission"....with your lyme...That would be a very good thing...

I have read about the 28 day cycle of the spirochete - I hate to tell you this but it's when the spirochetes are reproducing in your system - which is a great time to kill them!

Here's a paragraph from the following website:

http://www.ilads.org/files/burrascano_0905.pdf

"It has been observed that symptoms will flare in cycles every four weeks. It is thought that this reflects the organism’s cell cycle, with the growth phase occurring once per month (intermittent growth is common in Borrelia species). As antibiotics will only kill bacteria during their growth phase, therapy is designed to bracket at least one whole generation cycle. This is why the minimum treatment duration should be at least four weeks. If the antibiotics are working, over time these flares will lessen in severity and duration. The very occurrence of ongoing monthly cycles indicates that living organisms are still present and that antibiotics should be continued".
