Claire - you can also check with the pharmacy...they can really be your life line while on rx's...I always called mine if i wasnt sure if I could take certain things...and they also know more about the side effects too...
I know what I am and I know what I am not

Never put it past this disease to be the culprit - but we also cant brainwash ourselves into believing that it is the only thing

I've not taken the minocycline, but I did take Doxy, and it was really rough on me. It's in the same class of drugs, and it may just be that class of drug is difficult. I had similar symptoms to you, so we both may just be very sensitive to that class of drug, as Missy was. I've heard others say kinda the same thing, too. I have to agree with Julie, with the exception that if you AREN'T eating, you absolutely MUST with doxy, so I'm guessing the same would apply to minocycline? The restriction is you can't have dairy products or bread with it. You also need to stay out of the sun. I'm guessing the same would apply to minocycline, but again, I'd check with the pharmacist.

I'd probably call the pharmacy first, and ask about side effects, if you should eat with it, what restrictions there are with eating, and see what you've been doing in comparison to that. If you've not been following those directions, and since your doctor wants you on this drug, I'd probably stick with it another day or 2 if I could...But not any longer if I continued to have the symptoms. If they go away by doing what the pharmacist recommends, then you may just have been doing the wrong thing, like not eating with it or eating the wrong thing.

If the symptoms don't go away in another day or 2, OR if the pharmacist tells you you're having an adverse reaction, and you need to discontinue it, then I'd call the doctor. But otherwise, that's really what your pharmacist is there for, and they often know more about the actual drugs than your doctor does. That's why they are there to double-check interactions and stuff like that. Your doctor won't always catch some of those things. The pharmacist is much more likely to do that.

Anyway, FWIW, that's my opinion on it. And if you are having trouble finding things to eat, some of the things I did while on doxy was eat some good hearty soups. They really helped with settling my stomach. Even if they didn't sound that good, they really went down well, once I started eating, and they were filling. Any soup you really like should work for you. But usually chicken noodle is a good bet. And organic is best. Honestly, I went for minestrone the most! Cuz it's my absolute favorite soup, and it's got protein in it. Also, lentil soup was a second best bet, cuz it also has the protein. Choose a good hearty soup with protein. Don't go for the crap that's not got much in the way of the chicken, tho! Go for the good stuff, splurge a little if you can. It'll pay off in how you feel in the end. Since it's that time of year, the other thing that really helps settle my stomach (besides, of course, ginger ale--or if you prefer it, diet coke) is the soft peppermint sticks or little candies. Or even the hard peppermint candy bites. Peppermint is a wonderful stomach settler. And so is ginger, that's why ginger ale is wonderful, too, but some people don't like the taste. I tend to keep ginger ale in the house a lot, and that really helps me, I keep it pretty much all the time, and my hubby knows he's not allowed to really drink much of them, they're mostly mine! LOL

But you can suck on the peppermints, let them dissolve in your mouth, and that should help settle your stomach pretty quickly. Sipping on the ginger ale should help, and having a good hearty soup is great for any meal, just about. A good breakfast is a fried egg, just use non-stick cooking spray instead of butter. I usually go for some toast or crackers, but I know that's looked down on by the Lyme community in general. But if you have an upset stomach, it'll settle it. And sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get your stomach settled... Those are bland foods that may help. Rice is good, and you can cook it in organic chicken broth, low-sodium.

Ok, so I hope some of that helped, I know I went on and on...Sorry! Just thought of a bunch of stuff that I know helped me a LOT when I was feeling so bad during a particularly rough Herx. Hope it can help...

*hugs*

Jen

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

I have called into the doctor's office, still waiting for a call back...I had another terrible night....I agree with you all that it may be the antibotic that needs to be changed.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

OH I finally remembered!!!!

When the nausea would get really bad - doc had me pickup Emetrol from the pharmacy...altho it is has sugar and stuff - there were times that I couldnt get through the day without it it...and you can pretty much take as much as you need. I would take a swig, eat something quick and small...and then shortly after take another swig...I have even used it during the tail end of the flu - when ya just feel like your gonna puke - but there is nothing left...

I know what I am and I know what I am not

Oh, if you can't take the liquid emetrol, it would make me want to puke that much more, try meclizine, it's just as good, but in pill form. It's great for travel sickness and vertigo, too. Just ask for it from the pharmacist, and take 25 mg up to every 8 hours. That is wonderful stuff!! Glad you are getting help here! *hugs*
