Hi Missy, Anyway does anyone know if you can ever fully recover?? _____________________________________________

The earlier you are treated the quicker you will get better and as long as you find a good LLMD

My LLMD says he even see the ones with late stage Lyme with multiple co-infections who go untreated for years get better with the appropriate regime and for long enough, for those it can be tough as the herx's are intense as the load is higher so the herx is tougher, I know as I am one of them but even for me 7 years untreated and bedbound I am now mobile, albeit still having bad herx's and dealing with Co-Infections.

So keep in mind how many do recover and go on to lead a normal life.

Please take a look at some of the success stories that a few of us have uploaded here.

I hope that gives you some reassurance

Is the co-infection you have tick related? I tested pos. for Ehrlichia also, which is from a tick. My doc feels that I had it and it is passed and that the main problem now is just the Lyme. I also tested pos. for Sjogren's syndrome. I went to a doctor for that today and he felt it may be a false pos. I really don't even have symptoms for it. Getting more bloodwork done to check comparisons. all very confusing--but starting to feel better--and that's all I hope for right now! Thanks for the pos. stories!

Missy, When we talk about co-infections, we're talking about infections passed along with Lyme from ticks...That's what co-infections are, not other infections you have along with LD. They are specifically things like Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia, etc...Does that make sense? I don't mean to make you feel stupid at all, just trying to help some of this stuff that seems confusing make sense. Other infections or diseases are not necessarily "incidental" but not necessarily related to Lyme, if that makes sense... Hope that helps clear up the confusion for you! *hugs*

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Hi Missy,

To confirm what a co-infection is.....

Ticks as you know can carry and transmit Lyme Disease although they can actually carry a cocktail of other infection, so the other infections that they carry are referred to as a Co-infection.

So when you are diagnosed with Lyme disease your LLMD/Doc should also test you for these co-infections and all of the most experienced LLMD's reconise that these can be as serious as Lyme Disease itself - you therefore need to treat the Lyme disease and presenting co-infections.

In my case I have Lyme and the co-infections Babesia and Bartonella and sadly a large percentage of people who get bitten by a tick will also have co-infections.

Co Infections require different medications than Lyme Disease.

I hope that makes it a little more clear but again your treating LLMD/Doctor should know all about these.

Ria

I realize a co-infection is something the tick also passed along and that is what I was told I have. (EHrlichia) The part I'm confused about is when I did research on this particular one it said it's only acute for 7-10 days even though it can show up for much longer. Two different doctors told me that mine was no longer acute and that I did not need to treat this particular thing. I'm still on meds. for the Lyme however, I've never taken any of the meds. listed to treat the Ehrlichia. When researching Ehrlicia it said that some people do not need to be treated for it --it can just pass unlike Lyme where you need to be treated. So my question really is--does this sound right?

I'd have to disagree with that, honestly, unless you actually heard it from an LLMD. The problem with most of the co-infections, in general, is that you have to treat them in order to take care of your Lyme. That usually goes for all of them. And I've had a doctor tell me that Ehrlichia DOES need to be treated and can be a problem long-term. Have you done any research on it at all? I checked out ILADS and they didn't say much, just about Lyme in general... But here's some things I did find out: In severe cases, it has been known to cause death, and severely ill patients can have abnormally low white-blood cell counts. Treatment of choice is antibiotics. Even a military document states that due to its severity, it should be treated promptly. They state the doxy is the ab of choice... From what I've read, at least glanced over, it seems that Ehrlichia is very poorly understood and only newly gaining in "popularity," so to speak. I have a feeling your doctors don't understand it and are willing to dismiss it. I'd feel less comfortable with what they have to say, but if you are on doxy, you should be able to get rid of the bugger, from what I gathered. You can google Ehrlichiosis in humans and take a look around at the sites that come up. Beware anything that comes from the cdc or the idsa... Just a warning! LOL

The problem is I can't take doxy. I get very dizzy. Two doctors told me they felt it passed. I did do research on it and I saw how serious it could be, but in the same breath it said some people have it and think it's the flu and never get treated and move on. I think I already had the worst of it when I was really, really, ill...but it seems like you really never seem to get the same answer. I'll bring it up to my doc again..but I guess first I'll finish the 30 days of medicine I'm on. Seems to be helping big time so why mess with it right now. It really seems to be a guessing game with all of this. Doctors saying one thing..websites saying all different things...Man it gives me a headache...and I don't need one from this I have two kids under the age of 5!LOL Not to mention 2 loud and dirty bassett hounds and a diabetic cat who needs insulin shots twicw a day!!!LOL Catch u later!
