I am a mother of a seven years old kid named David. We went to Venezuela on Summer Vacation this year 2008. There all my family was bite for a lot of ticks. We were exposed to the ticks’ bites for a month. My son had more than 40 bites in his body. Just few weeks after the bites, he began with continuous head pains. I meant he always has pain, it never stop, he wakes up with pain and go to sleep with pain. Additional he has red and sorrowful eyes, sweaty hands and blurry view. He continue with these symptoms until now, i.e., for about six months.

His Ct-scan was ok; he doesn’t has problems according to the ophthalmology and neurology doctors. The result for the Sedimentation Rate-Westergren is 2 and the Lyme IgG / IgM Ab is < 0.91 which correspond to the range of equivocal results ( 0.91- 1.09)

I would like to know if my son has Lyme disease and what kind of labs is required to determine if he had this illness.

Please help me, I am very worry.

Thanks you

Dennys Victoria (David’s mother).

Hi Dennys Victoria,

It sounds like you need a Lyme Literate Doctor. Most doctors don't know much about Lyme Disease.

I don't know anything about reading test results but by the symptoms you mention David could have Lyme Disease or some other bacteria or even a parasite carried by ticks. Unfortunately tests aren't always that accurate and the tests in North America are for North American tick bites so there's an even greater chance that the test results won't be accurate in David's case.

I have no idea what the ticks in Venezuela carry. A good doctor would look into that for you, make sure they do. I think because of the number of ticks bites he got he could easily have more than just one type of bacteria, so you need to find a really good Lyme doctor.

The best place to start would be to contact one of the group leaders...and let them know where you are located.

In the meantime, you may want to considering adjusting his diet...products with Gluten (wheat and rye) can add to some of the symptoms...additionally high sugars can feed the infections. try and get him to eat fruits and veggies raw or lightly steamed if possible - and as much as you can. processed foods just arent good in general - just easy and convienent...

But definately get him to an LLMD - that would be your best option.

Never put it past this disease to be the culprit - but we also cant brainwash ourselves into believing that it is the only thing
