when i started rifampin for bart my anxiety came back. i'm pretty sure it is a herx. i have backed off med and will ramp up again after i kill some bugs. i had both early morning anx and tears and stress over stuff that normally wouldn't make me react that way.

when i stop or cut back on rifam it goes away. but i really need to fight bart so will be a turtle and go slow and steady for awhile

I hear Rifampin does initially intensify Bart anxiety but push through it as I also hear it is excellent for Bart.

I am about to treat bart in the coming months after babesia so wait for it as I will probably be anxiety crazed

Im not saying i'm looking forward to it but again we have to go hrough it to get through it - Lets hope my LLMD has his hotline ready!!!!!!

Gregory,

That's good, if it helped you. I know better, for myself, never to try another drug to help with a drug. Especially a diazepam! They murder me and exacerbate things for me.

We'll all different

Greg,

Yes, it IS amazing---- but not so when you know your enemy (Bb) can shape shift (morph) and do other clever things to evade treatment.

Even loses it's 'overcoat' fer cryin' out loud!

I had grilled cheese and fries and played the penny slot machines at a near by casino. Long story. Don't ask. LOL

Hi Greg,

many have to take a benzo like diazapam to see them through the Bart Herx's, my LLMD also uses it and then you dont need them when the intensity of the herx anxiety gone - Just like a band aid until it heals really.

I also use Diazapam when needed and again my LLMD says he has never seen a patient stick agressive bart treatment without a benzo as they end up backing off of meds - mind you he is aggressive with treatment, but again he only uses it as a band aid until the TBI load is down.

A few friends of mine are through their bart herx's and treatment and are leading their lives now (including my husband) and after treatment did not need the Benzo's any more. You will see many have the same experience.

So again no one here can say yes or no as its the experience of your LLMD that counts for everything and of course your invaluable relationship with your LLMD as every case is different.

Keep battling on and you will get thourg it.

Ria

ohhh i like this info. and hi cave...didn't know you were here. i'm lpkayak at lymenet.

today i up the rifam to 450. i've been afraid i may have to go to hosp for pain under left rib which llmd thinks is bart in spleen getting killed. it's been a little scarey-but hearing you guys talk about it helps.

my anx does seem to be leveling off. i have vistaril to take if i need it. it makes me sleep without making me dopey when i wake up.

i'm also upping cortef. but don't think that will do anything neg.

well thanks for the bart info. what a journey

Hi Northern,

Great news that you are managaging the Rifampin, keep telling yourself you have to do this and then soon you will look around and be so proud that you have got to the other side of it.

Also nice to hear that since treating the barty your anxiety is leaving, well done.

Corter? Little concerned on this one as it is normally a no no in Lyme unless you are so low in your natural adrenal funtion that it is needed in tiny dosages - cortef (cortisol replacement) in large dosages suppresses the immune system which is bad in TBI's although if you are so low and you need it in small dosages that can enhance the immune system - so unless your LLMD says it is a must try and stay clear of it.

My Lyme completely shut my adrenal function off and I had addisons so it was a must for me but as treatment has gone along my adrenal function has come back some so I am only on baby dosages of cortef now and get a blood and saliva cortisol day curve run to make sure in mid range and not over/under medicated.

yes-i tested low adrenals and had symptoms. my llmd wanted me on it last year but my primary said if i took it she wouldn't tx me. she has saved my life and the llmd is very far away so i didn't take it. i have switched to lyme literate primary now and he says to take it. i started at 5 of cortef...moved up to 10 and will try to get to 20.

i'm ok this morning after upping both meds-still have under the rib pain-see the doc at 2. i've also upped my probiotics-i read two books about how mega doses can stop some major problems and trips to er-will post title and authors if anyone is interested. one is ann gittleman's new book.
