"When I first came to MDJ, I was in a very dark place, and feeling quite alone, I don't know how I found this site, but I have been very grateful ever since, all of you have offered insight to the illness of Bipolar and the other things going on with me, being here has allowed me to find friends, and to feel safe in discussing things that I would never have shared before.

I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

Hi guys. I have been drinking coffee in the mornings. Is that okay?

Also, why do some people refrain from working out? I asked my LLMD assistant if I can still (thankfully lyme hasnt gotten me to the point that my energy is so low that I cant do this-I push myself hard regardless!) work out and she said just no jumping around? Huh?

So I do the elipitcal and weights, but I dont run to do aerobics persay. Just curious what would be wrong with that?

I think anything with caffeine is a bad idea, but that may just be my opinion. I think that you are really runnning a major risk of having too many artificial highs and then needing a lot more caffeine to get you going, and I think you run the risk of basically addiction, and you will have crashes and cravings. Caffeine also tends to make you crave junky food and sugar. It can also cause horrible headaches, especially when you try to get off it!

Since I've cut caffeine from my diet, I feel a LOT better. I don't have near the cravings I used to have, and I don't have the same kinds of headaches. I also have a much better diet in general!

A lot of the issue with working out is certain workouts can be difficult for you, I can't really remember all the reasoning behind it--but Dr. Burrascano's guide lays it out pretty specifically. Check it out and he can tell you. I think you have the link. My Lyme-brain just isn't working today, I'm kinda tired! LOL

Aerobics can be good, but not always initially in the treatment--again, Dr. B spells it out really good in his guide as to why and what kind of workouts are recommended and when!

*hugs* and good luck!

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

I drink one cup in the morning. My advice is moderation. I find that on an off day, the crash after the cup can be profound. But it's different for everyone.

Bravo for you for continuing with exercise! Again I find that moderation is best. Even if you are feeling great when you do a heavy workout, you can relapse shortly after. It's a fine line between too much and not enough. Listen to what your body is telling you. I was instructin three heavy impact aerobic classes a week when my journey began and was able to tolerate that well.

Because of new health issues, I am unable to continue. Walking is my exercise of choice now. Some days I do 30 min, some days 15 -all depends on how I feel that day.

I can't stress how different it is for all LD suffers - what works for one won't work for the other. Just tune into your own body. Trial and error is the only way to know.

Hope this helps a little,

Sue

Hi

I know all too well what it like to neeeeed coffee and I would do anything for a Starbucks... however.....and this is just what i know from research and personal experience.....coffee is taboo for lyme and chronic illness from infection...

You may have heard of professor garth nicolson form the molecular institute he is a mirco biologist and very well published on these diseases and attends all the Lyme conferences in America as he is usually one of the primary speakers....

here is what he wrote in one of his many research papers, reports etc on his institute's website....(if it were not for this man, i would be completly lost, he is a genious) and so he writes... Do not consume caffeine. Caffeine can stimulate the growth of certain microorganisms and can change blood properties and stimulate certain biochemical pathways that are not helpful for chronic illness patients. In addition, excess caffeine can modify a patient’s immune system and its ability to fight disease...

I hope this helps in making decisions that you feel are right for you.

I am the one who recently wrote that i had a big cry and melt down over my food losses so i feel your pain re coffee lover but for me, and this is just me, it is not worth the suffering coffee causes me...I think we give new meaning to the expression ''you are what you eat'''

hugs

Kittie

Give up coffee??? Oh dear..... I have tried that a few times in the last few years to no avail. I always come back. I actually feel like I do better drinking coffee, not worse. Not just because I'm addicted to it, and obviously I am.... I mean, hook it up via an IV!! Not really, LOL

There was a time when I usually drank a whole pot every day by myself. I don't do that anymore, and haven;t for a long time. Usually, I have about 3 cups a day, like Julie said. And honestly, coffe is probably my best remedy for staying regular. It actually seems to help with my IBS issues. The only times I have ever noticed having adverse reactions have been if I've had more than those three cups AND not eaten. But otherwise I do well. I don;t drink soda pop either, except a smidge on rare occasions, but I don't do well with anything carbonated anyway so it just helps me avoid it.

But wow,.. I didn't know it's been said to be really bad for Lymie's like that. Hmmmmm.... gives me some more food for thought, thanks.

On the exercise, I can barely get up & down the stairs lately. Getting off the curb often gives me problems! (no seriously, I'm not joking)... I have grown so weak between being sick, and losing muscletone from not exercising that it's been a downward spiral. I was always a strong person.. this year is the first that I have really hit a wall in that area. I have an oval jogger/rebounder with the support bar on (so I don't fall off), and that's about all I can handle. Even that, I haven't been doing lately because I just can't right now, but I hope to again soon. I need to be doing something.

Jen, when you're feeling up to it, would you PM me where to find the info regarding exercise during treatment? No rush,.. I can look for it later also, but if you know right where it is, that'd be cool, too.

King, you've been thinking up some great questions lately, thank you!!

Hmmm...

Caffine. Well I am totally allergic to coffee...really messes with me bad! Dont even have a coffee pot in the house - Hubby has to get his from 7-11 on the way to work.

However, i do take caffine pills. Now I was taking them for a while daily (no longer). But not for the energy - it just doesnt do that too me unless I take way too much. Caffine helps with my headaches. With a massive one, I will take 2 caffine pills (200mgs ea), 2 aspirin, and 2 alleve (excedrine just doesnt cut it). And Yes, i will drink it with soda. BUT it helps take a raging 10 migraine down to about a 3...which is like 0 for me. I can ignore the pain up to a 5...so if that is what it takes to get to a managable state, then i am going to stick with it. And it does help overall with my bodily aches and pains. But that is how it works for me.

"Ronnie Hortin", LOL Cute!

You know, I did read that the Biomat can help with weight loss so that's a good question, Ron. I have the opposite problem as you right now, and am desperate to lose the excess that has snuck up on me the last few years........... I want a Biomat.........!!! *someday*
