Also, Nikki, just wondering... How long have you had LD so far?? That also plays a factor.

Nikki...

It is going to be greatly dependant upon how long you have been infected and also on your body. For some, when they rec treatment right away, with strong aggressive therapy, they can in theory at least be rid of it. However, if you have had it for some time and/or had a very active aggressive infection, the likelyhood is that such short treatment is not enough.

They caught my sister pretty quick, as she developed a kind of sleeping sickness, and my mom went with her gut and took her to my LLMD...she was put on a min of 3 months of Rifampin plus cat's claw and some other supplements...with the hope that possibly it would erradicate the disease...but she still has it. It is very easy for her to maintain at this point. And she is living a pretty crazy college life...but there are times where it reminds her that it is there.

For an infection that is caught right at the beginning, there really shouldnt be any less then a 3 month min of aggressive abx treatment. If your still not feeling good - even if it is a come and go thing, then you need to consider more treatment. This is a life changing disease, and the longer it progresses the more it will change your life - and the more you will have to fight to get it back. Dont take chances.

Learn, educate yourself as to the truth behind what this bugger of a disease can really do...both long and short term. Get to a doc who understands and can treat you - all of you. Dont fall victim to the silly mentality that 3 weeks is enough - no matter how long you have had it. That is a foolishness that keeps so many sick and searching for answers for years.

This sight is a great source of info and terrific people with terrific support...learn all you can.

Hey Nikki, and welcome to the group!

I have to say that I would agree with cmany. Also, if you ask a dr. who is treating his family member, he or she would put the family member on 3 months of ab's just to be sure. That can't be a simple coincidence!!

There's a lot of junk about this disease, a lot of misinformation floating around out there, and too many doctors subscribe to the load of crap they can find about it. It's really sad that we can find the truth, but they can't? Nope, not buying that one! LOL

I have compiled a list of informative websites that may help you to be able to make some better decisions on your own care. I didn't do it alone, don't get me wrong, but it's all the stuff that we refer to day in and day out. If you're interested, send me a PM, and I'll be glad to get you all the info! Also, if you need anything, some support, an ear--or any eye! lol--to listen and just hear what you have to say, feel free to drop me a line anytime. I'm usually around!

*hugs* and good luck for a full recovery!

Jen

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.
