Hello~I have been recently diagnosed with Lyme's Disease. It is so sad how Insurance Companies do not want to pay since there are no in-network facilities that test for it. I still cannot recall ever being bit by a tick. My son's results should be in this week and I have mixed emotions...I hate for him to have it, but wonder if his Autism can be helped after being treated for Lymes. My doctor says there may be a connection...So, one by one each of my family will be tested....My husband has been having similiar symptoms as me in the past....He still doesn't ever feel great and blames his joint pain and headaches from years of sports......My gut tells me he has it, but had that cd57 test and it was normal....I am still pushing the Western Blot....My days are good and bad...I had a terrible day yesterday, but feeling much better today. I just want to bottle these good days up! I am on a ton of vitamins and will be on antibotics in December. Look forward to hearing everyone's story....

As you will find with Lyme, there is nothing considered "typical" when dealing with diagnosis or treatment. Although there are similarities in symptoms between individuals, diagnosis and treatment most always follow unique routes.

I have no recollection of a tick bite, nor did I ever have a rash. As you will learn, that doesn't mean anything when it comes to Lyme. Either you didn't have one, or you couldn't see it.

You are doing the right thing by testing everyone who is showing symptoms. Best to find out now and treat whoever needs it.

Autism induced Lyme? Yes, it is widely written about and you can find all kinds of information on the internet. The numbers of persons looking in to this and reporting their children is growing every day. I am not too up on it myself, so I cannot offer much insight.

Keep plugging away and keep reading. The more you know, the better you will be at helping your doctor. Journal your symptoms and your families, to help your doctor. It can identify the replication cycle of the bacterium, which is important to know when treating. Replication is when you can get the most die off of some of the bugs, and when your symptoms can increase.

If you are curious about something, you can type the subject in to the search box in the upper right hand corner of the page. It will show you if there have been any previous posts about the subject. If you don't have time, just post a new question here, and I know you will get many informed responses.

Be well, and good luck. Let us know how everyone comes along in testing.

Tom

Claire...

Well, as a mom of a child with autisim, you must already be a fighter. Your fight now has just become a little bit more complicated...

I have had Lyme for nearly 30 yrs, my 18yr old sis has it, my mom has had it for several years, but has only started treatment within the past year or so...as she was reinfected. My brother, who is high functioning, asperbergers, and my youngest sister just had a whole bunch of tests done. Still waiting for the results. But our LLMD, finally had asked my mom to bring the 2 in, considering my mom talks about all of us during her visits...and considering the way his behavior has been, and some of the current research and results, the LLMD felt it important to get him tested for all of it, LD, co-infections, and who knows what else...same with my sis, as she has some reoccuring issues as well...

So what happens if it is so - that these kids who are already overwhelmed with their Autisim also have Lyme...well its not the end of the world. Most autistics and lymies respond well to the same diet. They both tend to have vitamin deficencies...And if your whole family is running the risk of having lyme, well I can say from experience, it is much easier to change the diet of an entire household as opposed to 1 or 2 members...but diet will be very important.

Just keep reading. It is important to learn to tell the difference between the truth about Lyme and the BS that is out there about it. Doc's and Ins co's are not on page here with us...and it is a real shame.

Anyway, feel free to pm me with anything anytime...

Christine

I know what I am and I know what I am not

Never put it past this disease to be the culprit - but we also cant brainwash ourselves into believing that it is the only thing

Thank you Tom and Christine for your posts...My son's Western Blot results came back today and I am confused. All the nurse said was that Noah's results are negative by criterion, but may be positive by the patterns (whatever that means) and that he recommends him having the CD-57 to see if his immune system has been compromised....When I questioned the nurse about what patterns the doctor was referring to, she answered good question???? I hate to put him through more blood tests, bless his heart.....Any advice???
