Is anyone else having emotional problems with this disease? I am normally a stable even-keeled person, but LYme has turned me into a rage machine, cry baby, depressed, angry mess. I have started Lexapro to deal with all of this and I am seeing a therapist, but I am still having bad emotional "reactions".

yes, lyme can cause many emotional problems. The infection bartenello is famous for causing agitation, anxiety, rage, aggressive behavior and other disorders. you might want to get checked for it.

Thank you. I actually was tested for co-infections and they came back negative but I now see that there is a possibility of that test being a false negative. I am at my wits end. I am seeing an LLMD who is completely unavailable. I feel like every doctor I see puts me on medications and then just sends me away with no follow-up. I have broken out with hives from one of the meds and cannot reach my doctor. This is insane. I am already emotionally fragile from the disease but something like this can out a gal over the edge.

Thanks for your response.

Mammamia...

You are SO not alone...at times I have become a real wack-job. Lexapro worked so well for me when I was having intense panic attacks - my anxiety had gone to an extreem high a year and a half ago...it brought me back...

Are you on meds or alt therapies that are known for passing the blood brain barrier?

I know that it gets hard with the docs, and often LLMDs are very busy, but they do sometimes need to be reminded to listen. And sometimes it is just an office staff who lack the actual skills to deal with so many patients who are in various states of mind from all of this.

Relax...take a few moments to relax and not think about the things that are plaguing you. These things can really consume you and it is awful. Do you know which med caused the reaction? If so have you stopped it?

Keep in the back of your mind that you have found a place where there are people who understand you and what is going on. Let this help take some of the stress away.

Hang in there, and always feel free to PM me - even if you feel in you are headed for a rage, i can take anything anyone dishes out...no worries

Thanks Christine,

I have stopped all meds which is really disappointing to me. My LLMD has suggested colloidal silver to me, but I have not yet decided to take it. It's not exactly cheap.

I will restart the meds one by one until I figure out what I am reacting to. I am currently on Zithro,Flagyl, Armour Thyroid, Lexapro, Percocet. I stopped all of those and am now taking Allegra to bring the hives down, and Delaudid (sp?) for pain. It just gets discouraging when I have started to feel a little more energetic and clear-headed, to have to stop all of the meds. I also had a reaction to the Doxy about 3 weeks into the treatment. I am allergic to ulfa as well. I am not a person who takes meds "normally" and I guess I am finding out my "intolerances" one by one through Lyme disease...well, thank you very little Lyme

Thanks again for the thoughtful and insightful response. I am just having one of those dowwnhill roller coaster rides today.

Lissa

Besides the stress caused by having a chronic illness, the bacteria in lyme disease crosses the blood brain barrier causing the tissue in the brain to become inflammed. The result can be actual physical and chemical changes in the brain that result in symptoms similar to depression, anxiety, aggitation, irritability and panic attacks. Some people have psychosis and feelings of detachment, despite never having any prior symptoms of mental illness. Dr. Fallon at Columbia University is an expert in this field.

What a fantastic resource! Thank you. I am feeling a little better this evening but who knows what tomorrow will bring? Thank you. I know I am not really crazy but that doesn't make me any mre comfortable with what is going on, particularly since I have three young children who need their mommy to be sane and on top of things.

Oh MammaMia - How true is that...I have 4 that I have to stay sane for. But they do understand, they know that things arent normal with me. Unfortunatly, sometimes they take advantage of the situation...lucky me.

Zithro and Flagyl are pretty strong abx...I have been on them with pretty good success. Zithro is good for penetrating the tissue.

As for Colloidal Silver...I have used it 2 ways. I did take it in liquid form, and man did I herx - it lead to my equalibrium being WAY off. My viual perception too. So I went to lay down on the couch and totally missed...that was fun. But I did stick it out, and I have to say I ended up feeling better. BUT it is a temp solution, as it can accumulate in your system and turn you blue. So i would say to use it, but on and off over time. I also used a cream, one of my symptoms are psoriasis like rashes - its not psor - but does look like it - or should i say imatate?... Anyway, i used to get them all over my body, and I used the cream - and it helped. Dont have the cream now, but I still have the rashes on my scalp - what a pain...

Anyway - Hang in there!

Christine
