I believe it has also offered me the chance to reach out and help others. A simple Thank you, is all that I have to offer, to this site and to the wonderful people here.

Tahnee, may i add a little tidbit? Diluting essential oils, Olive oil works really well as it does not get sticky as it ages compared to other oils, better yet the ultimate is Emu because the stuff is anti inflammatory and beneficial for Lyme. I am pretty sure i am the only member here ingesting emu oil.You can buy a gallon for roughly $90 lasts like forever!

Ron, I really like cold-pressed evoo the best. But 2 really close faves are safflower and sunflower oil. But it does depend on what you are going to do with the oils, too...And which oils you are going to use. Sometimes the oil can interfere with it, you have to choose and oil that isn't too strong, or the fragrance of the oil itself can interfere with the fragrance of the essential oil, too. Sometimes just plain old canola or veggie oil is the best.

Also, I'd like to add that if you can afford to buy, and you really should make the effort to save up and do so, it's best to use organic carrier oils. You're trying to save your body, so if you don't use organic, you have no idea what pesticides were used in the farming practices of the production of the oils, so I really recommend going organic for this! Didn't really see a mention of it anywhere, so I thought I'd bring that up, but I just skimmed again, so I may have missed it... Wanted to really hit that point hard, cuz to me, it's so very important!

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Of course you can add tidbits, silly man, LOL! It's your thread anyway, heehee! My favorite is the EVOO, too. I think I read that it works really great for adding EOs to in one of those warmers... for fragrancing the home. And, very good point on the organic oils, Jen.

Also, something struck me, Ron, "it doesn't get sticky as it ages." My experience has been that if/when you're using oils, you really don't want to buy too much for too long. If it's gonna last you a long time, you want to be careful not to buy too much, cuz "aging" oils aren't really good for you. I use cooking oils frequently, so I can buy larger amounts of any of the oils I'd use to dilute an EO, cuz it won't "age." It's not gonna go bad. Anything that's gonna go bad, cuz you're gonna have it for too long, you don't want to get it. Once it starts to go bad, toss the sucker! It's better to spend a little more for a smaller amount of an oil you won't use as much of than to buy a large amount and save a little, but have it go rancid on you. How are you healing that way? Nope, bad idea, man!

well, being a licensed massage therapist, I've made many oils of my own. gotta say, my favorite cheaper oil is actually olive. and it's great for your skin too. But at healthfood stores you can buy grapeseed oil, also amazing stuff.

lemongrass has been one of my biggest hits, in fact, a friend of mine and me are making those neck wraps, she's a designer (such a sweetie, she makes me all sorts of clothes...when I first got diagnosed and was all down and depressed, she told me to pick out ANYTHING from her collection, because she wanted me to feel pretty and worthwile, what a love). SInce then, she's always making me stuff, and in return I do some body work on her. Obviously, since getting really sick, I dn't actually practice or have a job, my body just can't take it. But I do work on certain people, her being one of them. she has horrible migranes, and spearmint and eucalipitis are wonderful for that. so last year I bought her one of those herbal neck wraps, and she loves it. so she decided I could do the aromatherpy part of it, she could do the sewing part of it.

essential oils, there's a lot to it. goes back to the natural healing. there's so many ways to use them. SOME you can use full strength, but a lot you need to dilute, either in an oil, or bath etc. Some you can ingest, but certainly read up on that before doing so. There's been many studies on them, and many have been proven to help. I certainly dn't doubt thier validity.

Fluffy has a point, oils can go bad, and start to smell rancid, so keep that in mind

Thanks, Jen, and thanks, Jaime!

Jen, thnks for the reminder on the oils going rancid. I knew oil could do that, I just never included the "essentials" in there with them... IDK why?? I am sure mine need to be replaced then.

Jaime, what kinds of oils do you make, and when you say "make" what are you referring to precisely? I'm very interested. My girls & I were getting into giving one another massages in the evenings so we slept better, but since I went downhill agian, we'ce kind of fell out of it. I'd really like to get back into it again. We did our backs, necks, shoulders, arms, hands/fingers, legs & feet. But, we were using some spendy lotions w/ essential oils in them. LOVE the Lemongrass, too, btw. I'd rather do our own with the olive or grapeseed (& essential) oils...... any tips for making our own massage oils that you wouldn't mind sharing here? Or PM?

Um...just got up sipping coffee kinda hazy...but what is EVOO? i can get the Olive Oil at the end..sorry brain collapse i guess. We use a lot of Olive Oil ..thats all we cook with so it never gets old enough to go bad ...but i guess it can go rancid..but to clarify essential

oils could never have bacteria grow in them as they are so highly antibacterial.Out of interest i have Emu oil and i bought it in June its as good as the day i got it also antibacterial.I had a scary day yesterday..surfing with my beloved laptop and a message pops up "Trojan Detected" my antivirus got it..it said..yeah right next thing i know i am looking at a blue screen and a cute little message "dumping memory" soo cool a total crash.I lost a lot of pics that sucks..well then i got my vista disk out and started to load windows again..it prompted me for the product key which is on the little sticker on the bottom of the laptop.. out comes the magnifying glass ..3 of the numbers or letters are rubbed away..frustrating..i worked on that key for hours..2 of the rubbed away ones were either a 8 or a capital B so that was not bad..but i had to keep trying over and over on one finally got the thing so i am back up and running pretty scary though..thought i would just ramble a little and tell you about my day i like XP better more user friendly better get another coffee so whats EVOO ? ..brain wave Extra Virgin?

yup, extra virgin olive oil, EVOO, lol.

Not saying bacteria, just that they can go rancid. olive oil has a disticnt nasty smell to it after a while. a few months isn't going to hurt anything, even a year should be fine, but you'll know when it starts to smell funky

Beauty, I just get little bottles with the pull up tops from the travel section of a store, fill it up with your oil of choice, and add some drops of essential oil of your choice. There's no set amount, I just start with maybe a total of 10-20 drops (so if you're using more than one essential oil, divide it out. Shake it up to mix, and smell. You can add more if you want, depending on how you want it to smell. a great combo is lemongrass and rosemarry. one of my favs. it's just relaxing enough, and calming. Some people think lavendar is too much, so I usually stay away from that, but that was for when I would be working on people, this is for your own persnal use, so use whatever scent you like.

Just a word of warning to those out there who don't know much about essential oils, you should buy them at a health food store, or somewhere online, NOT at a craft store, they are NOT the same as soap and candle fragrence oils.

This is a paste from a very large essential oil source
