Hi everyone! I've been going through treatment for Lyme for 2yrs now and my doctor wants to begin IV treatment. I'm looking for any inside information from anyone who has used IV treatment. I am bit scared about having the pic put in place and don't know what to expect. Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks!!!

Hi:

I have not done the IV thing. So hopefully someone will come on and let you know about it.

Hi.. my girlfriend had an IV pick in for about 3 weeks, and she did her own IV's. The pick went good. and she did great. She had to have a nurse come by every week just to check it... But she had no ill effects from it.. It did the job...

That's good to know. I've heard that it can be painful when they place the pic...was that the case with your gf? How long did it take your gf to be diagnosed?

My doctor wants me to have the IV for at least 4-6 months since I have had it for so long and been going through intense treatment for 2yrs. I just found out about having to have a nurse come once a week and also having lab work done once a week. It all seems so overwhelming..

Thanks for the input, I greatly appreciate it.

B

HI she had the pic put in under, and when they took it out she said it did not hurt. So I don't know how they will put your in... The only real problem they said she had to watch for was infection at the insertion sight. She did real well with it and I know others who have had one and also did great. I don't know of anyone that it was done while they were awake... though...

Good luck and as always my prayers are with you...

pic lines are supposed to be great...I don't know why more of us aren't on them...they really do the job ... I'm going to ask my doc either for that or bicillin injections that you can do at home. also, build up that immune sysem with herbals...they say if you get your immune system strong enough it can start to take over more and actually kill off co infections.... i know, more money to spend...

also, if anyone is wanting an herb for pain and fatigue, I read about ribose, I'm picking mine up today FINALLY! can't wait. a doc with fibro took it, after 2 weeks, her symptoms had dramatically gotten better, and after a month or two, almost gone...now we're talking fibro here, and it's not going to kill lyme, but any help with the symptoms would be a blessing for me

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

I know that cost is one of the main reasons pic lines are not used as frequently. Insurance will not recognize the need for treatment to go beyond 30 days. My doctor does not feel it is worth having the pic line placed for someone with chronic lyme unless treatment can be continued for several months to really make an impact on the lyme. So after the first 30 days you have the cost of the medicine and the cost of having a nurse come once a week for lab work and changing of the dressing. So, it is a very expensive course of treatment, but seems to be one of the most effective. I know my doctor is working on a study to help support a change in the guidelines used to treat late stage lyme. Hopefully with increased awareness we can bring about the necessary changes needed to provide adequate treatment.

I am also a strong advocate of herbal supplements!!! They have made a huge difference for me. They are definitely worth the cost if you have the means.

Hey,my very first treatment was a pic line,It was put in June 2006 it stayed 4 three months, and then i was put on ceftin 1500 aday over one year later and im still on ceftin.Does the pic HURT ????? YES,when they first put it in,But if it wasnt 4 the pic im not sure were i would be,it was soo worth it,its what got me back on my feet,I was so sick that oral meds wouldnt work,i couldnt even hold up my own head,i couldnt even talk,i truly thought i was going 2 die,I got so sick again over the spring that i ask my doc 2 put it back in,But we changed up my meds and thank GOD got me back on my feet,Im still very sick at times and still on all kinds of meds and im sure that that will not be the only time i had to get a picline iv,But it makes u feel so much better is so worthy it,every time i think im sick i just think back 2 be4 i had the pic and it makes me remember how VERY sick i once was and much my body over came....I had to have a nurse 4 the first two wks but then i learned how 2 do it my self,And now i want 2 go back 2 school 2 learn visiting nurse service....If u need 2 talk im here...JENN
