I'm self employed, well technically, I'm an independent contractor. I have no disability insurance, or paid medical leave. Thankfully, I have my husband's medical insurance. The irony is that I'm a psychotherapist. I spend my working hours helping clients through difficult times. Now I'm the one stuck between a rock and a hard place. If I don't see clients, I don't get paid period. My husband is a mortgage banker, working on comission, so you can only imagine our financial situation. He had a freak shoulder accident last fall that put him out of work for 6 months. While I was taking care of him and working two jobs, I became very sick with lyme disease, which I contracted one or two summers before. We've already lost our house to foreclosure and trimmed our budget as much as humanly possible.

My problem is this: because of cognitive difficulties and memory loss, I'm not the therapist that I used to be. While I'm still able to help my clients, I'm not as sharp as I used to be. There have been no complaints from clients, but I can tell the difference and it's breaking my heart to know that I've lost confidence in my abilities. I do not have the energy to socialize with coworkers or doctors, so I'm getting fewer referrals, which is reinforcing my slipping self confidence. Should I just quit seeing clients completely? Or Should I stick with it while I'm undergoing treatment. IV Zithromax started last week. Sorry for the rambling.

Kelly
