I was wondering if anyone could help. I've been tested for Lyme with the western blot -- 2x actually. The first test I had only 2 bands and 4 months later I tested again, and I now have none. The problem -- I am still feeling horrible - I have about 20 "lyme" symptoms and I just don't know what to do or where to turn. I am so sad all the time. I was feeling sick in May and June -- then in July and Aug. I was feeling better, then in Sept. till now I am sick again. Actually when I took the first western blot (in July) I was feeling better but still took it and that is when I had the 2 bands. Now I feel awful again and I have none. And my doctor won't give me antiboitics because I test negative. I live on Long Island NY and I just don't know what to do. My symptoms come and go and change from day to day.

Headaches, numbness and tingling, eye twitches, muscle spasms, hair falls out a bit, wierd heart beats, cough and phlem, low grade fever from time to time, in the past I had ... brain fog, soles of feet hurt, wooziness, sharp head pains.

Had an MRI -- negative.

I am desperate for answers or any help. If it's not Lyme then what? I don't even know where to go anymore. Thanks for any help you can give.

Debra

Out of curiosity what other tests have you had? Were you tested for lupus and your thyroid too?

My ID doctor tested me for pretty much everything in the world even though my Lyme Test was 5 bands out of 5 bands. He wanted to make sure there was nothing else. He actually found that I had another tick disease also. starting with and "E" can't remember the spelling. He also found I have something called Sjogerns Syndrome. Might of spelled that one wrong too! That one is a collagen disease but you do not have the symptoms for that one. Anyway my point is you need a really thorough doc to do lots of tests. How is your ANA count? You can have false postives with alot of these tests because there is a cross sensitivity. Maybe start at a brand new doc. Start from scratch. Explain everything you've had. Do you live near New York? I know of a good doc there. Don't give up keep searching for answers!

Since my post -- I tested positive with Igenix. Still confused why negative then positive. I know that the testing is so unreliable. My LLMD is just OK. He started me on doxy. 200mg a day. I do live in NY - I need someone that takes insurance. If you have a name of a good doctor I would LOVE to get a second opinion. Thanks so much!

My mom suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome and for months no one could figure out what was wrong with her till this doctor. My mom saw her on tv years ago and knew where ever this doctor was that she was going to go to her. She did and has been seeing her for 20 years. My mom is a nurse for 30 years so I feel she's a good judge in character when it comes to doctors. I actually only faxed her all of my bloodwork, yet never met her in person. Did a full consultation over the phone, but I don't think she normally does that. I think it was a favor to my mom. I really liked her. enough to leave my other doc who was very good but a little too indecisive for me. Anyway her name is Dr. "L" She is located in the city I don't have the number handy but I'm sure info. has it. I'm NOT saying she is the answer cause I've only just started my journey with her, but my mom feels strongly she's one of the best! Good luck!

Thanks Missy. I will look her up. I have been sick for a few months now and just started meds. I hope to recover. I am going to see the documentary under my skin next week at a library by me. Ugh! But the more info the better. Good luck with your health as well. Thanks for the info.

Hey Debra,

We've kinda had this discussion before on this forum, and you're so new I'm sure you haven't seen it! LOL...I can't really explain it as well as Tom did, but part of the problem with testing for WB is that it really depends on how you are doing at the time you are tested, among a TON of other factors. WB basically tests for antibodies against Lyme. Part of the problem with testing for antibodies is that your body has to recognize Lyme, has to make antibodies, and the antibodies have to be free-floating in your bloodstream. However, with Lyme, most of the time, the antibodies are destroyed by the LD itself. The other problem is that often, the LD changes, so that your body is stuck screwing around trying to figure out what it's making antibodies to. So, there are so many different strains. And tests are just so imperfect. So, those are just a couple reasons there why your tests could be so different.

Third reason: All bands aren't reported by the different labs. Igenix and Fry labs are the only 2 labs in the country that report all bands for WB Lyme tests. Most people aren't aware of that. Those of us who've been into this long enough get a good idea. And please don't get the idea I'm trying to be uppity. I'm really not, just trying to share the info! But, the bands that are most specific for Lyme (and 2 of them have been isolated for vaccine) are 25, 31, and 34. All 3 of them are eliminted from reporting in every lab except for the 2 I just mentioned. So, how most people can get positives by CDC or FDA standards is beyond me, when your 3 most specific bands for Lyme are eliminated from reporting. How you EVER got a WB positive is beyond me!

Given all of those reasons, you can see why you got confused, and why our docs have no clue what they're doing. It pretty much takes a specialist to deal with Lyme, which is why very few of us can rely on a doc who's NOT an LLMD. Julie is a very lucky member here, her doc actually LISTENS when she speaks and has taken all her info she brings. LOL--go figure. I can't even get anyone to listen to me at all! What a gem!

Anyway, that kinda gives you, I hope, some idea of what you're dealing with. I have gathered, thanks to some really wonderful members here, a bunch of different links to websites that can help explain some of this stuff and may be able to help you understand more of this, if you'd like to PM me for them. I think there are about 5 or 6 sites I have. I'll be glad to give them to you so you can read up more at your leisure. You'll be surprised at what you may learn!

*hugs*

Jen

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Yes I was very lucky to have a doctor listen...But remember my ID doctor treatment me for three months, still felt awful then he said to me "YOU ARE FINE"....NO I WAS NOT...So my family doctor took over...Had a ruff time with the allergist that told me and my husband "you had 3 weeks worth of abx's out the door you go"...Well I can send you my letter to that "butt head"....

Also I removed my tick, never got a rash but got very ill 3 weeks later....

So yes I guess I was very lucky to have a doctor who treats me and will listen to me...Not many out there anymore....That is why I don't want to move (Jim wants to move for another job) I'm scared I will not find a doctor as outstanding as mine is to me....

King: not sure why, I don't even think the CDC understands LYME...I think we know more then they do.....If my doctor went by the CDC I would still be sick today....

I would ask Jaime or Connie that question, they are good about the bands...I had many +++ bands from igenex, if you want i can post them for you...
