OK, so I just went off IV antibiotics last week, and my WBC count was really low. I somehow caught some sort of nasty bug this weekend, and I've been running a fever of 101 constantly for over a day and tylenol and Ibuprofen do not help. I have a cold that started in my chest, and has set up camp there. With a lowered immune system I am unsure what I should do. ER? Wait until I can go to the doctor tomorrow? Geez. . . Lyme is enough!

If your symptoms are unbearable I would seek help at the ER but if you can wait around until tomorrow and you are sure that you can get an appointment with your doctor than I would do that. I have been treated with 4 or 5 different antibiotics for Lyme over the course of a month or two each and every single time I went off of one I developed a sinus infection within the next week. Maybe it's something similar? You could have an infection in your chest instead of in your sinuses like I did. This is just ideas though sorry that I can't give you all the answers.

I hope I helped. Good luck

Always true!

Having one test that shows lowered WBC (especially while you MIGHT have a cold or other 'normal' condition) does NOT mean that your entire immune system is lowered.

The immune system of our body has been working for eons like that, sending out WBCs to attack an invader.

However, since I'm not a doctor, if you think your entire immune system is lowered, then I'd suggest going to an immunologist and get the entire work-up. A doctor who treats AIDS would probably know more about that. (NOT SUGGESTING YOU HAVE AIDS OR HIV!!!!)

That's how the body's immune system is set to to handle infection.
