Just wondering what everyone thinks of the Flu Vaccine when you have Lyme? Our pcp is strongly in favor of the flu vaccine, but isn't Lyme Literate. We just had our appt. with the LLMD and didn't ask about this.

I think (IMO) that the Flu Shot is a GOOD idea with Lyme because our autoimmune system is already failing and we don't need something else to make us sicker or risk it. The vaccine is not a live virus, so you cannot get sick from the vaccine even though it may make you tired for a day or so, that is NOT from getting sick.

It's just my thoughts on the subject and I get a flu shot every year. This is the first year getting one with knowledge of having Lyme. I don't have a LLMD that I trust to know enough to give me a valid answer on the question so I went with my gut instinct.

Hi Becky...that very same question was asked not too long ago. If you type flu shot in the search column in upper right hand corner, you will find lots of other opinions about this subject from various group members, including mineSmile .

However, for convenience , I will offer my opinion here ,too. I will never get another flu shot again. I've had them for many years and it never helped anyway. Last year, I took a homeopathic flu prevention medicine and it worked. I did not get the flu last year. I gave it to all three of my children, too. They did not get the flu, either. Well, okay, my then three year old tested positive for the flu.....well, the good news is that her only symptom was a fever for a few hours. That's it....I was so happy. We have gotten the flu every year for as long as I can remember, despite the 'flu shot.' Smile If anyone is interested in the name of the homeopathic that I take, I'm happy to provide. Smile

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Open your mind to the possibilities available to you.

An attitude of gratitude is good 'medicine,' too.

I don't trust flu shots. My mom got really sick after hers one year and a friend ended up in emergency but that was because she was allergic to eggs and they had used eggs to culture the virus or something.

There are so many viruses around and I think the shots are specific to one type so you can still get sick. I think we're better off building up our immune systems.

It might help you decided if you look up what is in a flu shot.

I do NOT recommend them. They only cover 3 strains of flu.

When I got mine I was sick for days. Yes I have lyme. Never again in my life will I ever get one.

I have been told not to get my flu shot again with lyme I got one three years ago (after I had been exposed to lyme)and I was so sick. I am guessing our immune systems are pretty much compromised with Lyme, and when exposed to the vaccine we can't just produce the antibodies like most people. I don't know about you guys but I always seem to catch anything bug that was going around, maybe this is the same idea? lowered immune system.
