This is what I sent to our local newspaper yesterday about what I did for the first time where I live! There's more I put in there but didn't write it all down for newspaper!!

12 days left to View LYME/TICK DISEASE DISPLAY

at Ames Public Library!!

Iowa Dept. Of Health reported for 2006, 97 cases of Lyme disease were reported in Iowa. These were from residents of 37 Iowa counties out of of our 99 counties. Cases are documented from county of residence not necessarily were the disease was acquired. We know that the tick that carries Lyme is present throughout Iowa so the potential for acquiring the disease in Iowa goes throughtout the state.

JUNE IS LYME AWARENESS MONTH! So I put up a lyme display at the Ames public library in the north window display!

On the card table adjacent to this are FREE brochures (ONE per family please!):

 Lyme Disease Assn’s: ABC’s of lyme and tick cards;

 my retyped LDA brochure of symptoms, treatments, hunting, kids lyme, diagnosis using the western blot igm & igg blood test sent to Igenex, Calif., tick removal, HOW TO DRESS for outdoors: gardening, hiking, & walking in woods; NOIR no infrared sunglasses; support info; and lyme books recommended!

 Public Health Alert newspaper written by lyme disease patients on many subjects;

 Iowa LDA brochure from Pres. Kathy Cuddeback;

 Igenex, California’s blue brochure ... western blot igm and igg blood test with current price list! This is a MUST to pick up if you think you may have lyme and want to test for it! Only 3-4 good LYME/TICK diagnostic labs in USA testing all protein bands!

 Window display has the following in it:

 Dressed mannequin for gardening, hiking, or walking in the woods; take a good look how to prevent ticks from biting you!

 IOWA RANKS NO. 15 OUT OF 50 STATES IN LYME CASES!! See where the other states rank in how many cases they have.

 FACES OF LYME disease: 5 photos and 4 true stories about their lyme disease including my own!;

 Long symptoms list in detail;

 Controversy of IDAS vs ILADS!

 Short term infectious drs. Treating lyme for UNDER 30 days vs. LONG term antibiotic treatment for LONGER than 30 days up to several years.

 Conn.’s Attorney General Blumenthal filing an antitrust suit against the IDSA on their new lyme guidelines they established last year with NO INPUT from our chronic lyme literate MDs or anyone else’s input.

 1st CHRONIC LYME RESEARCH CENTER internationally opened at Columbia University, NYC!;

 2 lyme books on display: Lyme Disease for Kids; Are We having Fun yet? And Lyme Disease: Science, Politics, and Regulations;

 pair of NOIR sunglasses;

My display will be taken down June 30; so come and enjoy it now. Let the library staff know how much you enjoyed learning! Thanks!

Betty G
