I have chronic Candida, which I experience as a gurgling pressure in my stomach and the need to burp but the inability to do so.

I eat huge numbers of odorless garlic pills, which helps, but I'm worried about side effects from this much garlic. I also take caprylic acid, but I end up taking about 10 a day rather than the recommended 2 capsules a day. I'm pretty sure it's Candida that causes the problem, though, because the symptoms happen if I eat sugar, and they go away (temporarily, at least) if I have garlic, caprylic acid, probiotics, or apple cider vinegar.

Also, I take probiotics in-between my antibiotics and the Candida-killers above.

Also, I have a very strict diet with no sugar and almost no carbs. And I don't eat much food at any given time, for better digestion. I'm doing as much as I can diet-wise, and I'm taking way more than the recommended dose of the natural Candida killers, but I still have a continual problem with this.

I got my doctor to give me Diflucan for my vaginal yeast infection, but he was unconvinced that I have a systemic problem. I don't know whether the dose he gave me was high enough. I took it yesterday and haven't noticed any difference. He gave me 7 doses (one dose is supposed to be enough), so I guess I can try taking it again (it's at my house, I have to wait until the evening to get more).

Do you think I'd show up as having Candida in a stool test or whatever doctors use? What can I do? I'm already practically devoting my life to Candida prevention, and it's not working!

When I had a recent esophageal surgery, my doc found thrush, which my understanding is the same thing as a yeast infection. He treated me with Diflucan, but what we did was a double dose the first day, then a daily dose for an additional 4 days. Now, I'm not sure the exact dose of the Diflucan I took, but I was told it was Diflucan in generic form. Perhaps you should consider talking to a digestive doc? IDK...

Also, because my brain processes things differently, I have to ask. You said you are taking pro-biotics in between antibiotics, so I'm not sure how to take that. I take pro-biotics all the time, twice a day, every day. I know not to take them at the same time as I take antibiotics, so I'm not sure if you mean that you aren't taking them as the same time of the day as you take the antibiotics, but if you aren't taking them for the duration of the antibiotics, you definitely should be. I take mine regularly, regardless of whether I'm on antibiotics or not, because I know I feel better. I just tend to double the dose when I'm on antibiotics, and sometimes I'll even increase the dose more than double...

I'm not sure if the Candida will show up in a stool test. But most docs who treat for LD are well versed in Candida, because they usually understand that antibiotics PERIOD cause a build-up of yeast. It's very difficult for many people, even doing all you can, as you can obviously attest, to completely prevent a buildup of yeast. If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure I've read either in Dr. Burrascano's guide or in postings on here, that Diflucan once a week during antibiotic treatment is not uncommon. And that's even with other preventative measures already in place!

If you haven't read Dr. Burrascano's guide, perhaps you can google it and print it out for your doc? I'm almost positive he addresses the need for Diflucan treatment in it. If you have a vaginal yeast infection, it makes sense to have one in your gut!

Hope that will help! Sorry you are having problems!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Great idea about printing out Burrascano's recommendations for my doc. Thanks, I hadn't thought of that.

Yep, I'm taking probiotics while taking antibiotics, just at different times of day.

NP, I did that for my doc, also printed out the ILADS's info, and wrote him a letter detailing all my symptoms. I took it by when I scheduled my next appointment, and am hoping that it will help us move forward in treatment. We'll see what happens, but I think it'll help, as I'm not seeing an LLMD. I hope not to have to switch docs, for a number of reasons. But it seemed like a good idea? Smile

Ok, just wanted to check about the ab's/probiotics. I don't process things right, I'm sure it's from the LD, but... Laughing I figured as much, just had to ask. You might think about increasing the dose, if you can handle it, IDK... If you are taking a very high dose, tho, the probiotics can cause some gas. Many people don't realize that, so beware! Tongue

Good luck. *hugs*

I think the probiotic Culturelle works quite well to treat candida. You have to take it for a long time though. Also, soil based probiotic is good, even better in fact. All the other probiotic with FOS and the product molkosan are not so good. A waste of money in fact
