First some info:

OK back in May of this year I went to a Internal medicine doctor (don't ask me why)to talk to him about Lyme disease. I did not know anything about LLMD's only that the research I had done all pointed to the idea of Lyme. In June I learned of LLMD's and made an appt.

The Internal med doc did some blood work and I asked him to run a Lyme test and EBV, those tests were done at Quest. Here are the results

Positive - antibody detected > or = 1.10

IGM AB 1.71

IGG AB 3.63

(EBNA) AB (IGG) 3.64

I went to see my GOOD PCP today for my Xanex refill and they did some blood work. I asked them to test my EBV again to see if anything changed these tests were done at LabCorp so their number charts are different. Here are the results

Positive is > 120

EBV Ab VCA, IgM 131

EBV Early Antigen Ab, IgG 556

EBV Ab VCA, IgG 2357

Ebv Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG 1433

Yes you read those right 2357 and 1433 and any thing over 120 is positive. I am so confused how could these numbers be so high. I am going to fax them to my LLMD tomorrow but I wanted to know what you'll thought. Thanks for any info

I'm an Advocate

For your Lyme test, you need a better breakdown, but I'm guessing you know that by now. You need to know what bands reacted, and how they reacted. IgG and IgM aren't specific enough without specific band breakdowns... It sounds like the test is positive, but without more info, your LLMD might recommend even MORE testing.

With the EBV, nearly 50% of all kids and almost 95% of all adults in the US alone have been exposed to and/or HAD EBV. It's a herpes type virus, sometimes referred to as "mono" or mononucleosis, because it is the virus that causes mono. If I remember correctly from my last doc visit (and that could be questionable--certainly someone else may know better! Laughing ), my PCP said that IgG indicates a past exposure to something, and IgM indicates current infection. If that is accurate, then my guess (not a doc, so can only take a stab at it!) your high IgG numbers might simply indicate that you have had some past strong, repeated, and/or high exposure to EBV. Most adults would have a reaction on IgG to this test. My PCP seems to think that it isn't a very useful test, unless there is a specific reason that you need to have it?

Hopefully that will help, but I'm sure someone else will have something to say! Smile

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help. I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Something has changed within me/Something is not the same/I'm through with playing by/The rules of someone else's game/Too late for second-guessing/Too late to go back to sleep/It's time to trust my instincts/Close my eyes and leap...I'm through accepting limits/Cuz someone says they're so/Some things I can not change/But till I try I'll never know/Too long I've been afraid of/Losing love I guess I lost/Well if that's love/It comes at much too high a cost/I'd sooner buy Defying Gravity/Kiss me good-bye I'm Defying Gravity/I think I'll try Defying Gravity/And you won't bring me down...

I had the same crazy off the charts EBV with similar IgG and IgM Lyme results. My doctor told me that the Lyme bacterium can have a big influence on the reactivity of the EBV test. I've never had mono, or been around anyone with mono, and the doctor was sure that the number was high because the Lyme bacteria caused a sort of false-positive with the EBV test. You would have to be VERY sick with mono to have numbers that high, not that I'm not really sick, it's just NOT mono!

Hi, I recently had western blot test done for lyme which came back positive, I read that on the western blot bands some of the bands will come back positive and really be EBV, or some other form of autoimmune disease. Here is the direct quote, "Limitation: positive results for 31 and 34kDa may be present after vacination in uninfected persons. Infection with HSV, EBV, HCV and/or syphillis (RPR+) may give false (+) results." My western blot from Igenex was positive for bands 39 and 41 LYME IGM, bands 23-25 and 41 for LYME IGG, however, back in July 2008 when my symptoms first started my EBV IGG and IGM were elevated as well. I also read that Lyme often brings back past infections. so, it's possible that you got mono and didn't know it. I never had a sore throat or the fatique that came with mono either, but according to tests results I had it at some time in my life also.

Ha now my EBV numbers are 3800. I guess it is just one of those many co-infections with Lyme. The numbers don't scare me, but I heard OLE can help bring them down.

Krissy- I haven't had another EBV since? 2001 I think, since you know they all ignore me! I have heard that the OLE and OO can bring them down..Takuna? I think is also effective...i just had to look up my 'sheet' here on what kills what for another user- so here is if you need it.. I have neglected that 'part' of me so I am glad I was remindedSmile hope you are well

What is the OLE and the OO. My EBV numbers were 600 and I thought that was high.

SORRY- olive leaf extract and oil of oregano.. I can't remember my EBV numbers but of course have copies back to 1998 so may look out of curiousity, no range in my head right now to tell you if that's high- the EBV IGM is (I think) 0- 0.19, but there is an EBV D Elisa and an IGG which should have the same range as the IGM.

I got a positive test for lyme too from iagenics, then later I had a EBV test come back with positive numbers too. My LLMD who is also a internal med doctor said that happens a lot with people who have lyme. Lyme reactivates a past infection like EBV. My EBV numbers have not changed since I've been taking antibiotics for lyme and my LLMD doctor said he can give me an antiviral medication to knock out the EBV after I've been on antibiotics for a couple of months.
