I have been on cats claw for 3 weeks now and doxy for 5 days and my muscles are continually having spasms. It happens mostly when I'm trying to get to sleep and when I'm sitting down relaxing.

Its mostly in my legs but i do get them in my back. My LLMD has me on flexeril but that stuff doesn't work.

Does anyone else have these and what can u do to help them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you taking Lyrica? If you are, it could be a side effect of the meds. When I was on Lyrica, it caused this side effect to a severe extent systemically.

If not, then it's possible it is simply a symptom of the LD or co-infections. It can happen, and some people have "restless leg syndrome" with LD. You may need to talk to your doc about getting treatment, because especially considering that it happens when you are lying down, that is pretty classic for RLS.

Also, you can consider trying to add more Calcium to your diet. Sometimes simply drinking 1 Fuze "Refresh" drink a day will be enough. You don't want to get too much Calcium. Usually what's in 1 or 2 Fuze drinks is good (more than 2 is probably too much!). It's important that the Fuze drink is a Refresh--they come in 3 different flavors, but not all Fuze drinks are the Refresh kind. I found that they seemed to help me some, but it depends on how severe your spasms are. They may not be quite enough. Some days, I still had spasms. Honestly, getting off the Lyrica was the best thing I did to reduce the spasms!

If you aren't getting enough water each day, that can cause muscle spasms, too. There are 2 thoughts on the recommended amounts: you should drink eight to ten 8-oz. glasses per day OR you should drink half your weight in oz. per day of stright water, not just any type of liquid drink. If you choose to add anything to it, you should add nothing more than Crystal Lite water additives, but as they contain aspartame, some people won't tolerate them. Flavoring the water with lemon, lime, or orange is another option. No sugars or fructose of any kind should be used, as it could contribute to yeast overgrowth, but I don't guess you'd add sugar to water, unless you find some kind of flavored sugar like Kool-Aid, which would totally defeat the purpose of drinking straight water! LOL!

If you aren't getting enough Magnesium, you may also want to consider supplementing it. There are several types of Magnesium, but the best form is outlined in Dr. Burrascano's guide "Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease." It's 33 pages, but it also has info on co-infections. If you haven't been tested for co-infections, you probably should be, because if I'm not mistaken, muscle spasms are a symptom of a co-infection, not necessarily LD... Please Google Dr. Burrascano and/or the guide I listed, print it out, and read what he has to say. I think you'll find it very beneficial, and it may have some info that can help you.

Hope some of this will be helpful to you!

Jen

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help.

I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

I agree that part of its sounds like Restless Leg Syndrome which is a symptom of Lyme. The only other thing I thought this could be is a herx reaction to the meds where your body gets sicker because it's killing off more bacteria than it can get rid of. It can make you feel like the flu, or it can make your Lyme symptoms worse. This sounds like it could be a temporary time of your Lyme symptoms getting worse. Oh well, take what you can and leave the rest.
