In June 2009, I moved from Washington, D.C. to Harrisonburg, VA to start graduate school at James Madison University and when we moved into our townhouse, we ended having a severe case of bed bugs.

I was the host (between me and my fiancé) and was bitten over the course of a month probably 30-40 times before we realized it was bed bugs and not just mosquito bites.

----

In June 2010, I was clinically diagnosed with Lyme Disease based on my symptoms from a MD (Georgetown University graduate with 30+ years of Tick Borne Disease experience) who also has Lyme himself and has dedicated his life to treating others.

It’s been almost exactly one year since my bites but my symptoms only really started back in January 2010.

My family doctor had me on Paxil with a diagnosis of something between Panic and Generalized Anxiety, but then put me on Zoloft due to side effects.

My symptoms have been night sweats, cognitive confusion, memory difficulty, muscle aches in my thighs, weakness in my legs/knees, joint-"popping," minor ear aches and ringing, fatigue, high blood pressure, anxiety, and aching in my scrotum.

I have also had two scrotal cellulitis infections within the last 1.5 months, with the first putting me in the ER on IV treatment for pain and Cipro antibiotic (which my body did not handle very well).

In the last few weeks, my typing skills and memory recall have worsened and I feel just completely unlike myself. Also, I did go camping back in September, but as mentioned above, don’t remember any tick bites and have never had a rash.

Just this week I have tested positive for WA-1 Babesia (through Focus Diagnostics Labs) but have not had a positive test for Lyme as of yet (through LapCorp), but did have two non-specific bands show up in my Western Blot (IgG P41 and IgG P66).

I paid extra to have the Western Blot done based on my parent's recommendation (they're doctors), so that's they why they ran it, even though the first two antibodies were negative, which normally triggers the lab to then the Western Blot when one antibody comes back positive?

---

I'm currently being treated for Lyme Disease with Doxycycline and taking supplements and eating a healthy diet and exercising.

My Lyme Doctor does not want to currently treat me with the Babesia medicine (Atovaquone) because he wants to treat the Lyme first. I'm one week in and already feel a *little* better! Smile

Question #1

Any thoughts on my doctor's recommendation to NOT treat the Babesia currently? I'm assuming his decision is because of the conflict in taking Doxycycline and the Atovaquone?

Question #2

Can I transmit Babesia to my fiance through sexual intercourse, the doctor said that Lyme can be sexually transmitted. My fiance and I have been together for 5 years now and are getting married next year, but don't plan to have kids for several years after that. Does anyone know what precautions (if any) should be taken regarding this topic?

---

My family doctor wants me to see their practice's Infectious Disease Doc on July 6th, so I am going, but I'm not too optimistic from what I've read about their impressions of Lyme Disease, especially chronic neuro Lyme, which my Lyme doctor believes I have.

~~~Common LLDr's knowledge dictates treating coinfections first or at least along with Lyme.I don't understand why your "experienced" Dr does not know this or is ignoring it if he does.
Babesia needs to be treated first. The lyme will not get better. See update on babesia in fact section I believe.
My daughter was treated for lyme and never knew she had babs for 15 yrs.
Can I simultaneously treat with Spiro (recommended to me by cmany?) with my doxycycline (600mg daily for Lyme), will that suffice?
My doctor said you can't take atovaquone with Doxycycline.
If I can take the Spiro (which cmany said treats Bab & Lyme), do I also need to do that like Artemisin? 2-3 days on 2 weeks off?
Thanks for your help, I love this support group SOO much! Smile
Well Wishes,
John
I'm not aS versed as cmany on herbs so I would suggest sending her a PM. My daughter and grand daughter(lyme and babs were passed to her in utero) were treated concurrently with zithro and mepron
John, I had babesia and was told that needed to be treated before thenlyme can get better!
I was on doxy and malarone first which worked well then switched to mepron and Zithromax and still took doxy! I believe you have to treat coinfections first not the other way around...
Good luck xxxx
