"I think I may have lyme disease, going to be tested. Even if I don't I can never..." (marley)

MDJunction to me

"All I can say is that this has been the best place ever. It has been six to seven months since I joined, and I have learned so much. I now believe in myself and accept myself on a completely different level. The people on MDJunction has been so supportive and accepting that I have been able to adopt it into my personal life. That has reduced a lot of stress in my life. Thanks to all." (bunnyfly)

hi

I asked a LLMD's secretary if my daughter would need more blood tests since she tested pos on 2 titers, and 41 kd came back positive for igg and igm.

she said 41kd means lyme exposure only. of course they will look at symptoms etc.

what does "lyme exposure" mean vs. real lyme disease?

thanks

The 41 band does not indicate Lyme exposure. A huge percent of the population has this band. Of course a huge % may have been Lyme exposed. You only have Lyme disease if you are sick and symptomatic. Routine screening opens up a Pandoras Box. Many people are exposed to Lyme. If your immune system contains it you are OK. It is impossible to know the % of exposed or infected people get sick with the illness. Some estimates are that it might be 50/50. Not to be critical, but the sort of reasoning given above sounds like garbage. I don't think secretaries should be dispensing advice: do you?
I am a family doctor in Germantown Maryland. I have been treating Lyme for several years and have treated between 500 and 1000 patients. I am learning all the time. I don't claim to have all the answers. I answer questions because I want to help people. Everything about this disease is controversial. I want to write a book which will be a patient guide to Lyme, so questions from patients are helpful to me.

You're, probably, sitting there thinking that "lyme exposure" makes no sense at all.

I'm sitting here thinking that that secretary's comment makes no sense whatsoever.

Just remember, that was neither a nurse nor a doctor.

When I was being tested for diagnoses of my "air hunger", one of the testers made some remark that I didn't seem to have any physical breathing problems. The doctor prescribed three different kinds of oxygen equipment.

The only people I trust to know about this disease are other "LymeHeads" (depending on how much I trust them - from what they're saying - that's why I read all the msgs on this site) and MDs and NursePracs who I trust - gut re-action to the person). (That's not written very well but, hopefully, it's understandable.) / Gray /

my big issues are these:

my daughter has such behavior issues (can't tell if it is lyme or just bratty behavior)

the sinus arythimia (irreg. heartbeat) concerns me

OCD concerns me

major separation anxiety and just overall anxiety (esp. hating to go to school everyday) concerns me....

so I dont know if I should go to the dr for this, since she had 2 + on titers, and the 41 igg and igm pos., or just take everyone's words for it (doctors) and say she does not have lyme.

real, real, real confused.

Seconding pixey77's comments.

Are you going to a 'good' llmd? (There are some that call themselves an llmd but then treat contrary to the ILADS protocol) with herbs or supplements only. Not the best way to start out, but can be valuable as an adjunct.

Go to www.ilads.org and read the information. Some might be a little too confusing for a newcomer, but do get started on YOUR education.

Do NOT always depend on 'advice' given by people on forums. They're just people, like you. Same goes for me.

Get up to speed by reading and knowing as much as you can.

www.lymeinfo.net is also a good site.

Best of luck.
