Does anyone else herx on Cats Claw within an hour of taking it?

Does that herx include sudden onset of high fever or relatively high fever?

I can't tell if I'm herxing (coincidence) or if my kidney stone is causing fever...

Blah

Hey, Tara. Cat's claw, also called samento, is good in fighting Lyme. I however took too much one day and herxed for three weeks. Everyone experiences different herxing symptoms. Mine was an increase in the pain and additional swelling that we are now trying to get relief from.

**

At least I know something was happening. However, it is hard to tell. You always ask yourself if it is something else, a coincidence or the cats claw. I didn't get a fever. If I had, I think I would have been happy with that. I didn't herx at all on any other treatment I have had.

I would say if it happened an hour afterward then it is a herx, but it can make your sypmtoms worse because it is killing Lyme and they are giving off toxins.

You do however need to monitor the kidney stone issue just in case.

Thanks Paschalltwin, BettyG. I actually passed a kidney stone last night. However, I did get fever an hour after taking the catsclaw the last two nights when I started it.

I am not taking anything else but cats claw right now...adding one thing at a time. If the catsclaw is working this well to make me herx like that then I definitely will continue taking it.

In the meantime, if you remember me throughout the day send positive energy, prayers etc..I think I've got one or two more kidney stones moving....

((hugs)) OUCH.

Samento is TOA-free cat's claw, but not all cat's claw is TOA-free. Both are beneficial, but work in different ways against certain symptoms. There is a thread about it with more info if you want to search.

My experience:

Cat's claw herb capsules - didn't notice a change in symptoms, just continued to decline

Cat's claw raw herb (as a tea) - put me in bed with a herx. Made me feel awful right away, and brought up pains and symptoms I didn't have before. Powerful stuff!

Samento - no bad reaction, just felt better while taking it. Broke up a lot of inflammation in my neck, too.

I had a low normal body temp, so anything even slightly higher made me feel feverish and awful. When I started to treat my thyroid and the babs, the fevers and other babs symptoms went away in a few months.

If you notice more babs symptoms appear, maybe try artemisia. I got a bottle of that, and then switched to artemisin/black walnut tincture along with Bactrim and it worked great.

Never passed a kidney stone, but know someone who has and they were sweaty and clammy the whole time, so I guess it's possible it could be from that, too.

I'd lay off the cat's claw until the stones have passed, but then again I'm a wimp. Tongue

You'll be in my thoughts today,

Thanks zoemajik. I started running a fever that was high enough to wake me up...didn't use a thermometer so don't know what the actual temp was..I normally run around 97.4 as normal low temp.

Is that a babesia symptom? I have some night sweats usually early morning just as the sun comes up. Chest and nick and upper back soaks my night clothes and hair gets wet.

I totally believe I have lyme and bartonella...haven't thought much about babs though...

Here's a pretty good rundown of babs symptoms from the Lyme facts section:

http://www.mdjunction.com/forums/lyme-disease-support- forums/studies-research/318635-lyme-and-co-infections- symptoms

Headaches

Night sweats

Fever

Dry cough

Air hunger

Easy bruising

Tinnitus

Rage

Despair

Chills

Flushing

Vivid or violent dreams

Dysphagia (Difficulty swallowing)

Psychic Phenomena

Severe Neurological illness

Thirst/Polydipsia (excessive thirst)

Fatigue

Some of them overlap with Lyme and the other co-s, so it's sometimes hard to tell which infection is causing a particular symptom.

The whole post (the one I linked to above) is pretty good, except I would edit it to BOLD out the co-infections. It kind of runs together and may be hard to read.

And I keep forgetting to say that I used Nutramedix Quina too with my babs treatment. I only used one bottle of that, so I tend to forget, but it was helpful ...

I've taken cat's claw or samento since last July, but have not run any fevers with it. Hope you feel better.

Ok well I have like ALL of those except maybe 3 symptoms which I may have had those in the past at some point too...So I guess the whole ball of wax is in my court...but I have not had SEVERE neurological symptoms YET that would put me in a wheel chair...

If my fatigue does not GET better though, then I may have to resort to some sort of buggie or something to get around when shopping...I just can't go for very long without the fatigue over riding what I "want" to do.

I know you read this in a PM I sent, but wanted to post this in the thread, too.

I was scanning through "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Buhner yesterday. It's an herbal protocol that's highly detailed, explains science and history behind herbs recommended, etc. One of the first books I bought when I was diagnosed. Kinda dog-eared and scruffy looking now. Wink

It says that cat's claw is also used as a kidney cleanser and general tonic.

Interesting!

>>I just can't go for very long without the fatigue over riding what I "want" to do.>>

I HATE that ... the hardest part of starting treatment for me was being forced to slow down. A lot of time in bed and in front of computer or TV because it was all I could do.

I did learn some things during that time, though. I learned how to accept help (from DH, too, and using a cane and a shower chair when I need it, etc.), and I learned how to say no. I have trouble doing both - perfectionist mentality, I guess. Still practicing!

I'm understanding more what people mean when they say their illness is both a blessing and a curse. There are always lessons to learn.
