Another thing is tart cherry juice or extract, which is a COX-1 and COX-2 inhibitor without the stomach risks of ibuprofen.

I used to take Zyflammend (something like that) that I got at Whole Foods - it was a Cox inhibitor as well. I had someone warn me about taking it but I don't remember why...

I took the Zyflammend instead of taking aspirin/Tylenol, etc.

I'll have to do some research so I can remember why the person told me to watch out.

Also fish oil reduces inflammation as well as pure unsweetened cranberry juice. I dilute it with water and use stevia to sweeten.

Tomatoes, beef and onions cause inflammation!

Buckron,

It's nice that drinking alcohol works for you, but in general, it's a bad idea for anyone who has received a diagnosis of Lyme disease.

The liver is the number one organ that filters toxins from the body; and that's any toxin, not just Lyme disease. Anything you do to hinder it's ability to do it's job is not good.

Alcohol is a depressant and slows down vital liver functions (like detoxification) while it's busy filtering the alcohol from the bloodstream.

For any person on antibiotics, who is in the process of killing off Lyme bacterium (or even someone with a good immune system that is killing off some bugs), alcohol consumption can INCREASE pain.

Most of us out here know the mechanism of a Herx reaction...you kill the bugs, they dump their toxins...you symptoms increase, including pain. The idea is to flush these toxins as quickly as possible, because they can be reabsorbed through the GI tract. Your liver carries the vast majority of the responsibility for this.

The bottom line is that alcohol is not even close to a good idea if you have Lyme disease. Whether it causes pain or not, if it dulls the senses and makes you forget about pain, why would it be worth diminishing your bodies ability to rid you of this disease as quickly as possible?

Just a thought.

I don't think you are a mystery. You work like any other human.

Alcohol depresses the central nervous system...dulls the senses. Don't you think that may have something to do with it?

I'm not saying you drink enough to not remember anything, I'm just saying that the effect is to dull what the central nervous system perceives and tells your body.

The body can only process 1/3 or 1/4 of an ounce of ethanol per hour, so a 6 oz. glass of wine can stay in your system for many hours.

And I'm glad your pain stays away for 20 hours, but you sleep for part of that time, so how do you really know how long it dulls the pain?

My only point about alcohol consumption is that it is a very bad idea for anyone with Lyme disease, because it significantly inhibits the body to detoxify properly.

And I'm sorry to say, but Resveratrol will not do you a bit of good. To date, there have been no studies done to show that it has one single bit of benefit for humans. And by studies I mean scientific, by leading research institutions, not herbalists. And the only studies that have been done were to test the "French Paradox", trying to prove that wine consumption is why the French people have low rates of coronary diseases. Studies on Resveratrol have been done to check whether it has cardiovascular benefits, which it doesn't. There is not one connection to pain relief.

I really do not know what the heck to think, Its 5pm now and my pain is just starting again,I was totally free all day and felt great. My mind is starting to wander and all i can see now is that little glass of red wine. Its only natural to run for relief probably safer and easier on the liver than NSAIDs.I take plenty of milk thistle to help also.Nothing else will take this pain away that i have tried so far..the mystery goes on

I have to agree with Tom regarding alcohol consumption/Lyme. I used to enjoy 1-2 drinks in the P.M----then alcohol started making me sicker. After my Lyme diagnosis, I have wanted a drink occasionally, but it makes me ill. So in my opinion, alcohol may dull the senses/pain, but the reality of the disease is still there after the alcohol wears off, and when a good LLMD(and we know how hard they are to find)whose been treating Lyme for 20+ years tell me no alcohol, sober I'll be. Maybe someday I'll be able to enjoy a drink again.... Greg
