I think if someone said Yes to your question you would probably freak out with anxiety attacks so if i were you i would calm down and believe the answer is a big NO

It can cause a severe anaphlactic reaction. I have seen a report in the medical literature. No deaths that I am aware of.
I am a family doctor in Germantown Maryland. I have been treating Lyme for several years and have treated between 500 and 1000 patients. I am learning all the time. I don't claim to have all the answers. I answer questions because I want to help people. Everything about this disease is controversial. I want to write a book which will be a patient guide to Lyme, so questions from patients are helpful to me.

I have heard that if you killed all the Lyme in your body at one time, the toxins alone would kill you. Crazy isn't it?

YES. You can't do that. Urban myth type stuff. It is not toxins that cause a herx. It is cytokines which are chemical mediators which gear up the bodies immune responses.

Whatever the answer (which i think no one really knows)

There HAS to be a better way to get better!

Having A HERX isn't very "normal." I think that in this day and age SOMEONE would figure out an easier way!

Buckron i really don't have anxiety attacks. If the answer is yes then I think I can deal with it...My issues is PAIN!!!

I do have LYME after all....

From the way I know it, herxes should be like a roller coaster with hills that get smaller as the ride goes on.

When you first start treatments, and get herxes, they can be big ones. But as you continue treatment, they should be less and less severe and further apart. At some point, the symptoms should be few and far between, and that's when you have it under control and only need maintenance treatment for flare-ups.

This is how it should be, but I'm sure it's not the way it always goes.

Another possibility is that if you keep feeling really bad and are not getting better, you could have co-infections that are hindering your Lyme treatment. Make sure of where you stand on that.

I understand the pain, believe me I do. I have not been one single day without pain since early 2006, nor have I had more than 5 minutes without air hunger. It is VERY frustrating (pretend you hear my teeth grinding together as I write this, because it gets to me too).

But here's the thing...we can't give in. We do that, we feel worse. We fight thru it, we endure it, we get better...you will get better.

Last Friday was the one year anniversary of my diagnosis and the beginning of my treatment. In truth, I don't feel a whole lot better, physically. But knowing what's wrong with me was 75% of the battle, because I knew then there was hope. I hurt still, but I'm more hopeful than ever.

Stick with it, write to me here on the boards or send me a PM. We'll buddy-up and kick this thing in the butt, if you want.

In the meantime, don't give it the satisfaction of bringing you down.

Be well.

Tom

I had a really bad herx after after starting my treatment. Then four weeks later I had another but it was far less severe. I thought it was interesting that they were four weeks apart as I have heard the spirochetes cycle. My Dr. says my co-infections are almost gone and my lyme number has gone down. I'm doing all natural and feeling better every day.
