First regarding Bartonella or B henselae. Bartonella henselae is cat scratch fever, but it is also ONE of the the many bartonella's ticks can carry. There are many Bartonella's advise the forum members to read Dr. Schallers book on Bartonella if they'd like to be VERY informed on Bart and/or BLO's as Burrascano name them (Bartonella Like Organisms) - there over 30 strains according to Schaller, but bartonella henselae is ONLY what Igenex tests for, that is it, so basically they test for cat scratch disease. Then their are BLO's - Burrascano says: It has been said that Bartonella is the most common of all tick-borne pathogens. If you have a bartonella other than henselae, that the test at Igenex will be non-reactive (negative) and the usual Bartonella medications do not work for them - they suppress the symptoms but do not permanently clear them. Indicators of BLO infection include CNS symptoms out of proportion to the other systemic symptoms of

chronic Lyme." That is what Bartonella like organisms are. They don't even know if they are Bartonella, but they "act" like bartonella.

Breast milk

Igenex actually does a PCR for breast milk infection of Bb: Multiplex PCR for urine, whole blood, serum, CSF, miscellaneous (ex: Skin biopsy, breast milk, semen) Found here under LD tests. Source of info: http://www.ilads.org/lyme_flyer.html

It is well known that B. burgdorferi can cross the placenta and infect the fetus. In addition, breast milk from infected mothers has been shown to harbor spirochetes that can be detected by PCR and grown in culture.

Sexually and breast milk proof

Premise 9: Sexual (horizontal) transfer between humans does not occur The CDC position on sexual intra-human Bbsl transmission is that it does not occur (17). We find no study that addresses sexual transmission of Bb among humans; conversely, we find no study supporting that it does not occur. Inferential data, however, suggest the possibility of human sexual transfer. The data come from sound veterinary studies (96,98,115), the finding of Bb in human semen and breast milk (128,129), and by similarity to Treponema pallidum where sexual transfer is abundantly documented (117,130,131). Our clinical experience strongly suggests that predictable, possibly inevitable Bbsl transfer between sexually active couples occurs. The preponderance of infected spouses we have tested to date also exhibit positive serology or PCR for Bbsl presence.
