Anyone have info on this- I don't have the copy of my daughters western blot yet(hopefully tomorrow), but the Dr office said it was negative. I found an article today that said you must test fresh blood, the fresher the better. My daughters blood sat at the lab for 7 days before we discovered a mistake(they ran another Elisa which was negative, and didn't run the requested western blot) so they said they would run it with the blood they had after they got the Dr's approval, AGAIN.

I'm guessing that the blood was probably too old to give an accurate result, but if I tell my pcp....she will think I'm crazy. You know the feeling.

I think they ran the co-infections at the correct time, but I don't really trust this lab at this point. If they didn't even know that the specimin s hould have been fresh to test accurately, then they are probably just unreliable.

I'll post when I get results.

Becky

Hey,

Sounds familiar. My first WB, that I had to ask for, was drawn on a Fri. and sent to Quest labs, negative of course. I found out later about the fresh sample. When I had my Igenex tests done I knew to have the blood drawn at the beginning of the week, in fact that is on the Igenex instuctions. I would'nt trust any labs for lyme other than Igenex or Immunosciences. Don't be afraid to tell your pcp what you have learned. They are the crazy ones not knowing enough about lyme.

Good luck and take care, Denise

Denise

Hey Becky,

What lab are you referring to? It would be nice to know so that we'll all be heads up regarding that particlular lab. Lyme disease is one disease that we have to research like crazy. It is surrounded by so much ignorance that it IS sinful as you suggest.

I didn't know about needing fresh blood. That's very interesting. My blood was drawn on a Wednesday and sent to Immunosciences and Central Florida Research. The Central Florida research test was negative and Immunosciences was positive. Central Florida Research was formerly known as Bowen. There is a rumor that they changed their testing because they were getting 'too many positives.' That's interesting, huh?

I agree with Denise....don't be afraid to tell what you know.....if they don't believe you, find a new doctor.

I'm going to go and read your bio. I'm not sure if we've met .

TAke care and keep fighting for your right for proper tests and treatments.

Connie

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Open your mind to the possibilities available to you.

An attitude of gratitude is good 'medicine,' too.
