I have been studying up on all the different sites that i can find and haven't found any proof that lyme can be sexually transmitted.

But!! Both girls that i have been with recently have had drastic changes in their attitudes for no reason at all. The first girl i am speaking of i was with for 9 years.

She is the mother of my daughter whom is almost four years old now so I know she wouldn't have had it before getting pregnant. THANK GOD>

But, she did seem to take on the same type of attitude that my current girlfriend has.

Both of them seemed to just start acting differently all of a sudden and it makes me wonder if I may have passed it to them and not even known it.

I didn't know i had it until just about a week ago now.

And I am just making an educated guess really based on all of my symptoms and reading about all of yours.

If anyone knows anything about this let me know.

When I first went to the doctor it was for what i thought was an allergic reaction to soap or something else because I had rash on my lower abdomen that progressed down.

He said it was nothing sexually transmitted and nothing to worry about. I also thought that i had a urinary tract infection but he ruled that out also.

Only a week or so before that is when I started having chestpains for the first time.

And about a week before I went to the doctor, my girlfriend went for her checkup and had many different tests done and all came back negative for any std's.

She had bacterial vaginosis. Could that have been caused by me having lyme? We didn't really use protection and rarely ever do.

SO if it is sexually transmitted then It would surely explain her total change in attitude and the way she is acting lately.

I'm an Advocate

IMHO, this is a debate that won't be resolved easily. People will argue till the cows come home, and you're going to hear as many different answers to your question as people who respond.

Some say yes, some say no. Most people say their answer based upon their own experience. However, BB has been cultured in most bodily fluids, with probably the exception of saliva, if I remember correctly.

I think it's even been cultured in tears? Hmm...

But there are couples who are members of this site who definitely got it from one another. There are also members of this site who are married and have healthy unprotected sex lives whose partners do not show symptoms.

If you ask me, the jury is still out, and that means you oughta put a jacket on before you go into the rain, so to speak.

If you're concerned, the best thing to do is get them tested through a reliable testing company (Igenex or Fry), and then figure it out from there. I'd think you'd have your answer then.

Of course, they could always have gotten it from a tick, but the evidence would certainly be more compelling that it might be sexually transmitted if it were 2 women you were with that got it, dontcha think?

There are repeated threads throughout this forum regarding this argument--if you do a search on something like "lyme sexually transmitted" you should find them. You'll find much the same answer I have posted, I believe.

Good luck to you.

Just because it's impossible doesn't mean it can't happen.

I'm not a doc, so anything I say is my opinion only. Nothing I say is meant as offense, I offer what I can as help. I believe in educating myself on all my medical issues and being my own advocate, for no one else with do that on my behalf. I recommend we all do the same!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Perhaps I truly am insane for expecting these docs to listen to me when I say the same things repeatedly to no avail? LOL. I am tired of seeking out new docs and getting the same result time and again...Forgive me if I seem bitter some days.

Something has changed within me/Something is not the same/I'm through with playing by/The rules of someone else's game/Too late for second-guessing/Too late to go back to sleep/It's time to trust my instincts/Close my eyes and leap...I'm through accepting limits/Cuz someone says they're so/Some things I can not change/But till I try I'll never know/Too long I've been afraid of/Losing love I guess I lost/Well if that's love/It comes at much too high a cost/I'd sooner buy Defying Gravity/Kiss me good-bye I'm Defying Gravity/I think I'll try Defying Gravity/And you won't bring me down...

Thanks, Yes, just after posting this i saw the links for it. I have read through them all. I am really thinking that it may be transmitted depending on the type. I won't be able to afford testing for both of them. I will be getting billed for my bloodwork soon and i am pretty sure it went to a crappy lab anyway so it was probably a huge waste of money. Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it.

I agree with Jen, this debate could go on for years. Personally, I don't see why it can't...I know H Pylori can be passed thru kissing. This is such a strange disease and even the best docs in the world if you asked this question would probably tell you somethng different.

Then I go back to thinking that there are so many people walking around out there with this and not even know it, whose to say something didn't just trigger it to come out.... tricky topic I know.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Since the lyme bacteria is a "cousin" to the bacteria that causes syphilis, I would say it is most definitely sexually transmitted! There is not scientific proof bc, well, no one studies this since it "doesn't exist." LOL

Even though there is debate about it, I really feel it is sexually transmitted. That is how I believe my husband got lyme. He was perfectly healthy until about a month after we started sleeping together, and then...he got the flu like symptoms, but with no known cause...all tests came back negative, etc...

The bacterial vaginosis your gf has prob isn't related to the lyme...Vaginas are delicate things...if the pH is disrupted just a LITTLE bit, bad bacteria can flourish! Its a problem all of us women face at some point! Also, sex can cause bacterial vaginosis when the semen comes in contact with the vaginal wall. The normal pH of a vagina is slightly acidic (3.8-5ish), and semen tends to be somewhat basic to neutral...therefore, semen can disrupt vaginal pH easily!

I hope this helps some! My LLMD is CONVINCED lyme is sexually transmitted...and it has even been found in dust in Africa!

Lyme is an insane disease and Borrelia are very adept, sneaky creatures! Good luck with all this mess...I know it sucks!

I am not a medical doctor YET...my opinions are not approved by the FDA! ;)
