I know there must be posts on this topic but I can't find any so I apologize but I have to ask.

Today I pulled a deer tick nymph off my 5 yr old (who had Lymes with the rash, fever, joint pain, etc. when he was 2.5yrs old, was treated with 2 weeks of Doxy and seemed to make a complete recovery)

I don't know if it's possible to send the tick in for testing, but I put the tiny little speck of a tick on a piece of scotch tape in a plastic baggie so it wouldn't get lost/run away.

I pulled 3 of these buggers (could have been larvae even) off my youngest son last summer and his doctor said I'd have to wait to see if he developed symptoms. That doesn't really work for me, I can't stand the thought of just letting the Lyme take over again.

Oh and I identified last summer's ticks with the help of a powerful microscope at my mom's work, we could even see them digesting because they're almost see-through at that size! This one is a little larger than those, but I can tell it's the same thing.

In case anyone is wondering, yes I am neurotic about checking my kids for ticks since my son's bout with Lyme, and I've had to learn every freckle on their bodies. Usually what tips me off is a new tiny "freckle" with a touch of pink around it... it's pretty impossible to see these tiny guys otherwise! My oldest has been acting very lethargic in the afternoons and has been complaining of a tummy ache for the last few days so I'm worried about him anyway. I did get the name of a LLMD from here but I can't call until monday so I wanted to know what everyone here thought! Thanks for reading.

Amy

Igenex can test the tick - I think it's like $50 -- but why wait? Put him/her on antibiotics immediately just in case!

Good luck!

This is just so strange for me because I feel like I'm pulled in two directions. I'm normally very anti-antibiotics IYKWIM, I will do anything to avoid giving them to my kids because of how I feel they affect the gut and immune system.

Does it matter if the tick was probably only attached 12hrs max?

I am also anti-antibiotics. I have never taken any for my Lyme Disease -- but -- if I were to get bitten again, I would. Connie on this site has been re-infected 3 times. She was only bitten 3 times in her life and every time she contracted Lyme infections.

It only takes a few hours to get infected by a tick. Don't listen to the CDC! They will tell you 24 hours or something. It's way less.

Use your best judgement on what you do for your kids. I know Connie took natural abx when she was bitten this last time. So, look into Samento, etc. It works well combatting Lyme.
