I was recently diagnosed with Lyme. After taking the oral anti-biotic, I have been experiencing symptoms like neck and back pain, weakness in legs, etc. They seem to becoming on more and more each day. How long before things start to turn up? It has been a week on the pills but I am feeling worse and worse.
I was recently diagonosed and couldnt be more happy. Things seem like they are heading in the right direction.

First, are you seeing an LLMD? If you are not seeing an LLMD, I encourage you to find one. Jaime has a list and can help you find one in your area.

You are probably experiencing a herx reaction. When the borrelia dies, it kicks you in the pants one more time and releases neurotoxins (endotoxin) which make us feel even worse.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor

Hello and Welcome!

Herxing can be a bear, but it means the abx are doing there job of killing the bacteria. Keep in mind this is a slow process and you probably won't be well after the first round. Let us know more about you, like how long you think you've had lyme. Also since you are taking abx, be sure to take probiotics. Keep posting with any other questions.

Good luck and take care, Denise

Denise

Thank you so much for the quick and caring responses. Let me start by saying I never saw the tick nor the rash. I had experieced more fatigue and soreness in the past months. I chalked it up to stress and the gym. I had experienced numbness in my arm a few months ago and payed it no mind. I had no idea that anything would correlate. I went to my MD for a annual check up for HDL/LDL. I let her know I was tired, so she said she would check for Thyroid. I asked for a Lyme check. She asked the standard questions, like "why". I let her know I have 2 labs and live in a wooded area. Low and behold, Positive. Ever since that day, I have completely fallen apart. I am fortunate that I have a brother that is an MD. He prepared me for the Herxing process. He believes that I have had this for some time, based off my reaction.

Do you have any suggestions on how to weather the storm? Relief? I wanted to hear from people who have gone through and are in this ugly mess.

I was recently diagonosed and couldnt be more happy. Things seem like they are heading in the right direction.

I have been in this mess for the past 2 1/2 months and it has not been easy. I am trying to stay positive.

In thinking did I have it for a while for it to be this bad, made me crazy. You are doing the right thing now by learning more and getting treatment.

Others tell me and I try to tell myself, everyday i am getting better even though I may not see it. I am one step closer to recover.

keep the fight,

blu

I have limited herxing tips but here is what I know.

First of all, if you are working try to take short or long term diability if you have it. You are going to need some time to recover and take care of yourself. Be sure to ask family and friends to help you with everyday tasks you are stuggling with.

Next, rest, drink lots of water, take espsom salts baths (2 to 3 cups in you bath water) and try to be patient. If the pain is unbearable don't hesitate to ask your Dr. for pain pills.

During my last herx I found out about activated charcoal. I did'nt end up using it but Jamie on the forum told me about it. If you want more info PM me.

Look up websites on detoxing but if I understand correctly you can herx from to much detoxing also. In fact I purchased my own far-infared sauna but my Dr. does'nt recommend that I use it right now until approx 2 months into my treatments.

Hope this helps, Denise

Hello again,

Herxing tips???

Well, my herxing tips are mostly from an ALTERNATIVE perspective. I use natural antibiotics. Whenever I herx, like yesterday, I skip my antibiotics for a day or two and the next time I take them, I decrease my dose. I'd rather not be in pain....ugh...I've been feeling so good lately so I increased my dose of natural antibiotics and BAM...herxing yesterday. So, I'm decreasing the dose and sticking to it for awhile longer. I don't know if you can do that with conventional antibiotics, perhaps others doing that regimen will comment soon.

Also, when I'm herxing , I increase my Scolopendrium. This is an herbal fluid extract that has a combination of herbs that help to support your detox organs. It has milk thistle seed, blue vervain, white nettle flower, Heart's tongue, and oak fern. Sounds like crazy ingredients if you haven't been exposed to the alternative world. However, it works GREAT for me.

I also spend more time in a FIR sauna. That helps me. Drink lots of water. Exercise, if you can at all. A sluggish lymph system really slows down detox and movement is one of the best ways to improve the flow. Someone already mentioned epsom salt baths. .

Stick to the program and learn as much as you can. You will get better, too.

Feel free to ask any questions. THis support group is a lifesaver.

Peace,

Connie
