For the past couple days my neck pain has been getting really bad. I had my first mri last night and I was worried about whether or not i was going to freak out inside of there. I didnt have to worry about the lack of space inside because while I was laying there I was too concerned with my neck pain. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for helping with the pain until my next doctors appointment. I am at the stage in my treatment where they are still insisting I must have another problem. I have been doing as all the doctors say, I did the spinal tap, which went as bad as it could have and put me in the hospital, I just went for the mri i have been seeing the neurologist, and a few specialists but I finally have an appt lined up with an LLMD. I mean I tested positive for Lyme so I dont know why we have to be looking for another cause of all my problems. Hopefully I am now headed down the right path, but until I see the LLMD I would really appreciate any ideas that might take the edge off.

Kewa,

I wish there was more that could be offered (maybe someone else out there has something), but pain has to be dealt with as best as you can. Meds, balms, moist heat or cold...whatever works for you. I have intense neck pain too, but all I can take for it is Ibuprofen, and that hardly touches it. Unfortunately, my stomach is a mess, so I have to be careful with what I take. Try different things and see what helps.

My opinion, and it is just an opinion, is that you should not see any more doctors until you see the LLMD. Whoever you see can order all those tests too, and may want different versions...and will want to get you on treatment right away.

Believe it or not, a clinical "symptom" of Lyme disease is "...have you been to many specialists, only to be told there is nothing wrong with you?". Again, my opinion is you save your money and wait for the LLMD. Of course, if any of your current doctors can help you manage your neck pain, then go for it.

I know my suggestions may seem useless, but I have been exactly where you are, so believe me when I tell you I know what you are going through.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any more questions. Otherwise, I will see you out here on the boards.

Good luck.

Tom

Hi Kewa,

So glad to hear that you have an appointment with an LLMD. As for the neck pain, don't be afraid to ask for pain pills, if you need them. Most doctors won't just offer them, you have to ask. Of course, I would try other measures first, like Tom suggested...but if that fails, there's nothing wrong with taking a pain pill to get through the day. I lived on Lorset Plus and Ultram for about 4 years to take the edge off of my pain. I didn't get addicted and I didn't get high off of the lorset. It did help me to function and to carry on with my activities of daily living. Otherwise, the pain was just plain paralyzing.

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor

Thanks Connie and Tom for your help. It is just so frustrating sometimes. While all of these doctors are sending you to different places to figure out what is wrong with you, you are going untreated. The answer is right in front of them but they cant see it. I can see it, but they cant. I am definitly going to ask about the Lorset. Thanks again.

Your welcome , Kewa.

You might have to 'experiment' with lorset to see if it works for you. Lorset Plus was the narcotic that I used. However, it wasn't enough by itself for me. I used to take one Lorset Plus and two Ultram in combination to take the edge off. That was just what worked for me. I took that combo twice a day...sometimes three...for about 4 years. That was back when I thought I 'just had FM.' Hopefully, you will get into an LLMD very soon and not have to 'live' on narcotics for very long.

In the meantime, eat as healthy as you can....take a good multivitamin and mineral supplement....and I would go ahead and start taking probiotics, too. You can find these at a good health food store.

Keep asking questions and stay ahead of your doctors...you have to.

Peace,

connie

Neck pain for me was the first sign something was wrong after removing my "LOVE BUG"...

For the pain I put rice into a sock, put it into the freezer and then put it around my neck after it gets nice and cold. My husband made me 12 of them and I use them everyday for the neck and knee pain I still have once in a while. I LOVE THEM...Or you can heat them up also if you want heat instead...They will last for years and years

It was mine too. Yr Dr has to do all thoes test to make sure they cover all bases so you don't sue them. If they find nothing structurally wrong then ask to see a Physical Therapist. Have them do manual traction and STIM. You can buy an at home traction unit too on ebay or yr PT may give you one to use. They may also give you an at home STIM unit. Yr insurance may cover the equipment. Have yr neuro write you a PT perscription. I have found that sports PT do the best. I prefer guys too because you have to be strong to do manual traction. Yr head weights 20 pounds that they have to lift and stretch! So get someone strong!!! You will get relief but have to keep going at least 2 times a week. Insurance will pay for this!!!

Be careful of pain meds. They work great at first but then you have to keep uping your dose to get the same relief. You know you can only go so high until you have taken the highest dose...the pain cycle gets worse. I sleep with a travel neck pillow ontop of a down pillow with a heating pad on the pillow.

Stress also makes it worse!!!

Hope that helps!
