I am disturbed by an article I read from the Associated Press by Ted Bridis. The name of the article is Study Shows Moving Virus Research Could Be Costly. The 1,005 page Homeland Security Department study said chances of an outbreak - with estimated losses of more thatn 4.2 billion dollars- would be extremely low if the research lab were designed, constructed and operated according to government safety standards.....well, anyone who has read LAB 257, the government said the same thing(everything that comes to the island stays on the island)...well, viruses and bacteria (LYME) found their way out of the lab and onto the mainland anyway (they'll never admit to this). Lots of things , animals and people came to the island and then left the island.

They are studying the 'safest' place to move the lab. Five locations under consideration are Athens, GA; Manhattan, Kan; Butner, NC; San Antonio and Flor, Miss. A sixth alternative would be construction of a new research lab on PLum Island. I wouldn't want to be ANYWHERE near that place.

Interesting article.

Wow that's just great, I live very near Athens GA. I'm already angry enough and I haven't watched the "Under our Skin" movie or read the Lab 257 book. Let us know if you hear if they are definitly going to move it.

Thanks for the info, Denise

Oh, and they are studying diseases such as foot and mouth disease which they say does not infect humans but could devastate livestock. What other animal viruses have humans caught...how about bird flu???? THey are also studying African swine fever, Rift Valley fever and the Hendra and Nipah viruses. These are just the viruses that are mentioned in the article. Who knows what else is going on there???It's just scary. I understand that we have to stay on the cutting edge, but history has proven these viruses and bacteria cannot be contained. Lyme leaked out. The lab became in disrepair, infected ticks escaped, found a host (deer), and the deer swam back to the mainland. Voila , outbreak of 'juvenile arthritis' in Lyme , Connectictut. Is this new lab going to be different?.....pray for our nation...

Whoa whoa whoa! That is classified information! It's absurd to imply that our Gov would experiment with biological warfare. As a munitions specialist in the military, I can assure you we have never experimented with chemical or biological weapons or entities of any kind (lightning just struck me and I have no idea why).

There is even a "biological" career field dedicated to not doing any of those things? I mean-things!

It is also not confirmed that President Bush is in the late stages of Lyme. Or that the LLMD I just saw in Louisiana was essential in getting him diagnosed! It was meerly a coincidence that he was at the White House just before his diagnosis was made public.

So stop spreading rediculous rumors!

wow con, that's insaine! you are right though, why don't they watch all those movies out there, the sci fi, it all can happen. the viruses and bacteria can mutate (and have done so already) hence our late stage chronic lymies! what used to be so sci fi and ridiculous , seems to be coming to real life.
