That is a tough question since many of the symptoms of Lyme mimic so many other illnesses and vice versa. But I would say that a lot of people DO have it and it just takes a long time to find the right diagnosis. Especially if you do not get the rash!

Hard to say...We can blame everything on lyme when its not lyme, that is the scary part if you ask me.
Lyme will not win, we will and we WILL…

Based on what I've read in the past, I'd venture to guess 50 to 75% of people with just FM have Lyme, that's not including the ones walking (hopefully) around with MS, ALS, Alzheimer's , etc......

I agree with Connie. Think of how many of the people on this site were told they had Fibro? Most? Well, I wasn't told that b/c I never trusted doctors and just didn't go to them. Many people think Fibro is a 'blanket' diagnosis b/c doctors don't know what is really wrong with people.

that's exactly right, Clayton. Fibro is a collection of symptoms, not a disease. All most docs do is prescribe meds to cover up the symptoms, meanwhile whatever is causing the pain is allowed to flourish. It's just sick.

I was told that I have fibro, but I have a hard time accepting a diagnosis that has no diagnosis. I just went to my nuerologist on Friday and he ordered an ELISA and WEstern Blot test to recheck for lyme disease. I mentioned to him the amount of people that were diagnosed with fibro and then they found out they actually had lyme. That is why I demanded the Western Blot test. He said the ELISA can have false negatives, but also the Western Blot can have false positives. Did you ever hear that?

Yes - that is true. Most of us on this site will tell you that you should look into your test being done by Igenex. That's the only way many of us were even diagnosed correctly!

Hope you get some answers!

yes, it's true. I had the western blot done twice by a neurologist and an immunologist and both tested negative. I had my lyme disease doctor use Immunscience lab and I tested positive for lyme and coinfections.

Western Blots are known for false negatives, too. My Western Blot was negative. I didn't have ELISA. My tests from Immunosciences were positive. Keep pushing for an accurate test. If these come back negative, don't be surprised. In other words, don't let that end your quest to be properly diagnosed. It doesn't mean you DON'T have lyme if your western blot and elisa are negative. Regular docs are simply uneducated about the tests for Lyme and the inaccuracies surrounding them. Good luck and I believe you are right...there is a reason for FM...it doesn't just happen and no cure....something is causing your pain and your symptoms are your body's way of telling you that something is wrong.
