I had fun getting to take a little trip to Branson, MO this week. I also went back to my neurologist today and was told I've gotten so much better that he really doesn't need to see me except in a year for a follow up. He said he'd worked a lot with Lyme because of studying in New York which is how he figured out on the very first visit that that's what was wrong with me. He also said it helps I'm young and that he wasn't as worried about resistance to antibiotics as in someone older and that it seems like the rocephin had knocked out the lyme that was in my central nervous system which is why I'm so much better. He also said in his experience that the iv is best and once you find an antibiotic you're not resistant to it should only take 6 months- 2 years to be better and that there are many lingering symptoms. I still don't have reflexes in my arms but I have them back in my legs and that my balance is much much better (last time he checked it I have to keep catching myself on the walls). So I'm very excited. I have about two more months of ceftin and then we're seeing how I do without antibiotics.

I haven't really seen any discussion about it but one of the most interesting experiences I've had is dating while going through all of this. I'm kind of curious if anyone else has been trying this and experiences?

Thanks for the update. I was so worried about you . You were so sick in the beginning of your treatment. I'm so happy to hear of your improvements. Keep your body strong and immune system intact. Does your doctor help you with those kinds of things?

About dating, that would be strange....I thought about that....I can't even imagine.....I'm an old married woman and it was my concern that I passed it on to my hub and kids. So far, so good.

Hopefully some other free and single people will come along and offer advice on the dating scene.

Please keep us posted on your status and stay strong

Peace,

Connie

There's a nurse in my doctor's office who's had Lyme since the early nineties and she been extremely helpful in suggesting vitamins. Now each time I go in we say a little prayer together and trade notes and suggestions before the doctor comes in. My neurologist suggested a lot of ways to take care of my body aside from meds, said he wouldn't change what I'm taking, but that I'll have to be very careful with my back and neck. My last MRI showed a bulging disk between my 5th and 6th vertebrae, it's mild and isn't pushing against or touching any nerves but I still have to take care and not lift and watch my posture. I also have been doing things to try and get back some of my thinking and memory. I've played classical guitar for a few years and it helps some with coordination plus different little puzzles and strategy games. I've also started going outside again and taking pictures which has done so much to improve my mood.

So glad to hear you're getting your life back in bits and pieces. What wonderful news. Our personality does come back. My husband has even been saying things like, "oh yeah, I remember that goony smile" or "oh no, we're in trouble now, Mommy's back."

I'm also glad someone is helping you keep your immune system strong.

Hopefully someone will come along and comment on the dating thing for you, too. That would be interesting.

Peace,

connie

As far as the dating thing for myself I joined eharmony back in December when I was working (worked in a daycare until I was getting migraines everyday). I had decided then that it wasn't fair to not have a social life and since I live on a farm and so far from anything internet dating is easiest. I have met some really great guys and made some good friends. I was worried when I had the picc line and how guys would react to it but I actually had one tell me "Oh yea baby show me those tubes" . It's all been an interesting experience. I have a very close friend who I was with a year ago when she found out she had a cancerous tumor in her brain and although it's very different we've gotten closer because we've been able to share the emotional part of what we've both been though and really understand.

I just remembered, I saw a discussion a while ago about trying to go on Oprah...what about Ellen Degenerous?
