I am wondering if I should get a Rhizotomy for my neck stiffness pain. My neck isn't getting any better and I can't take the pain anymore. I have only been in treatment for 3 months but my neck still hurts. It's hurts so bad I can't even go to a movie without being in complete pain. I can't drive either with out my darn neck hurting!

I know not to get any steroids so a Rhizotomy is when they kill (burn) the nerve off in the neck.

I have already done PT for 5 yrs and pain drugs don't work anymore neither do muscle relaxers or cymbolta, Lyrica...

Hi ldsucs,

I never heard of a Rhizotomy until your post. In my old days, I would have done just about anything to stop the pain. However, I am extremely cautious about 'procedures' done by allopathic physicians now. It seems the answers to chronic pain are either cut it off or out OR mask it with medicine. I am not a fan of having any of my body parts removed or 'burned' off. I ,personally, would not do it.

I had horrible neck and spine pain. I know exactly what you are talking about. It hurt to wash my hair, it hurt to go up and down our gravel driveway, it hurt to ride on uneven pavement, it hurt to talk on the phone, it just hurt all the *### time.

For the worst time, I used Lorset Plus in combination with Ultram. that took the edge off.

I wonder about your nutrition. Is your doctor also advising you on nutritional supplements? Many of us have deficiencies for many reasons (altered GI status as a manifestation of the lyme itself or altered GI status due to conventional antibiotic use). My doc put me on a trace mineral supplement and it helped my pain. However, the latest supplement which was a magnesium supplement eased my tightness in my neck and shoulders so much that I feel like a new person.

Do you suffer from headaches, too?

Is your pain worse since starting your treatment? If it is worse, it may be caused by die-off which means stepping up detox would probably help you.

I also had PT for one year...it did nothing. I tried all the drugs you mentioned, too. I might as well have been eating sweettarts. All those drugs did nothing for me either.

So, bottom line....I would not get my nerves killed. I would try everything else, first. Again, that's just me.

Take care and I really hope you get some relief soon.

My heart goes out to you and your family. I'm really sorry your child is infected. I think it's the absolute worst to see a child suffering from this horrible illness.

Connie

I know it's scary going under, but I'm doing it this Tuesday.

I don't want to be a pain meds anymore...I barely used them anyhow...they make you more tired and foggy!

Wish me luck! We are doing a local block first to see if blocking that nerve off will get me out of pain...this included my headaches too. If that local block works then we are going to burn the nerve. It should last a couple of years. However, the nerve does regenerate back, but i'm thinking my lyme will be under control by then...

FYI: I'm not using any Steroids! My pain Dr knows my DX and works with my LLMD.

I hope this works!

Oh yeah I have been in pain w this for 6 yrs! Done everything natural for this....Nothing worked longer than a few days...

Idsucs, I am really interested in how this works for you. My neck pain and stiffness is real bad. I sit at a computer all day for my job which does not help the pain or stiffness. I am trying to educate myself as much as possible on all of my options to managage the pain. I wish you luck with your rhizotomy.

I really don't suggest the rhizotomy. I know you go through the pain so much and get desperate. I almost had the procedure done but didn't. I started taking naprosyn twice a day for the swelling and started using Voltaren (sp?) ointment on my neck. It's a topical NSAID that can be used for spot treatment and after only a few days with this my neck is so much better. This may not work for you but it's definitely worth looking into.

Naprosyn is alleve. That won't work...I'm way beyond that... Yes I am very desperate. I have a gut feeling it will work.

I've had neck pain and stiffness for over 15 years. No movies, no road trips - I know exactly what you man. Just driving a few blocks is hell. I went to through alternative treatment and my pain was GONE on the 2nd day. I'm not kidding. It was a device called Alpha-Stim. I'm not sure if it works for everyone but it knocked my pain right out. It's been almost 3 months and I am just now feeling a little bit of it coming back. I'll just use the machine again when I get back to my doctor and hopefully it will work. I know they use these machines on veterans, etc.

You are a brave one to under go that kind of surgery. That would freak me out! I am assuming you researched the heck out of it?!

I can not afford alternative treatment. I am too sick to work and am taking care of a sick 2.5 yr old who never sleeps. i'm glad everyone got better with alternative treatments but I can't pay much for my treatments. 100 dollars is max limit for me. Sorry but buying food comes first. Then diapers. Then DD treatment. Anything left over goes to me which is not much...100 max.

Please stop rubbing it in about how great yr expensive treatments are ...that is not an option for me!

I have a TENS unit. It doesn't work anymore.

At least my insurance pays for this treatment. If it fails then I'm not any worse off...

Thanks, though!

First, I'd like to apologize that you believe we are 'rubbing it in' regarding our 'expensive' treatments. We are only offering our experiences as to what worked to rid us of our neck pain and trying to be helpful. As far as expensive treatments ,it's relative. Here's my take on it.....it cost me about $15,000 for a full recovery. I compare that to what people pay for a car...... Also, others have paid FAR more and are no better off with their disease. So, it's only my opinion, but I believe my treatment was a bargain. Don't get me wrong, I'm sick that insurance didn't pay for anything....out-of network...BUT my health is restored and it's hard to put a price on that.

By the way, what is a TENS unit?
