I believe I am having a herxheimer reaction. After 3 weeks of doxycycline, and beginning to feel better, I now feel worse! My blood was tested last week (on 10/11) and my lymes bands aren't back yet, but my EBV levels came back very high. I'm going to see my infectious disease doctor tomorrow, and after speaking to her on the phone she confirmed that I probably am having a herxheimer reaction and am developing some kind of viral syndrome? Do you think I'm going to be prescribed more doxy? or maybe a new medication? Is there anything that can help the herxheimer reaction?

Don't try to suffer through the herx. Herxheimer reactions can be very serious. When I herx, I quit taking my abx until I feel better...then I start again. Stopping the abx for a few days or so will not put you behind. A lot of Lyme sufferers have found that this works best. Some people even take their abx every other day. Whatever works the best for you is what you should do.

You probably know that with most people, herxheimer reactions occur about once a month or whenever you switch abx. As long as you keep that in mind, you will have an idea of what is happening when you start to feel worse. My last herx put me in so much pain and made me feel like I was losing my mind.
