Hello Everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with Lymes and a co-infection of Babesia in October 2009. I was started on 250mg zithromax, and then 1000mg Ceftin. About a month later I started Mepron and 8 days into taking this antibiotic I woke up with what appeared to be chicken pox all over my body. As the day went on I noticed the rash persistently got worse. I called my LLMD and was told to stop all antibiotics and resume once my rash went away.

It took about 10 days for the rash to disappear, and now I am on the zithromax and Ceftin once again but I am very nervous about starting Mepron. Because I got heart palpatations as well. I told the doctor this but they told me to start in anyway. The only thing I can figure out is that they are trying to figure out if it was a reaction or a Herx. Any opinions? Has anyone else had this sort of Herx or reaction to antibiotics?

Thanks Tiff

No MD either. I got the Lyme on Dec 2008, at that time I got an all over the body rash like the one you described. Thinking it was an allergic reaction to something, I got tested for food and environmentals. I wasn't taking any medications at that time that could have caused an allergic reation. Rash lasted like a week after a shot (IM), cortisone tx and daily benadryl; it would go down and the come back next day. Last week, a little over a year later, I woke up with the same all over the body rash. The only think I have been taking is an atibiotic for acne, but was taking it for almost a week before the rash started on day 6 overnight. I also believe I used this antibiotic years ago without problem. I stayed back from work in case it was chicken pox. So, here's the question: Is the Lyme making us sentitive to... ??? Which can't explain my first rash. Or, is the Lyme provoking this kind of body reactions and is recurrent triggered by...??? I would like to go back to my acne antibiotic, but I don't want to "die on my sleep" (that's how the rash developed; didn't notice until next morning). First time the rash started with itch all over, second time it was a warm sensation, very mild itch.

LYME YAHOO GROUP BOARD FOR EACH STATE FOUND HERE!

People seeking doctors might be able to get help from their state online information and support group. Nearly 3,400 people belong to state groups. Some of the groups are small but more than 20 of them have 50 or more people and seven have over 100.

The groups are moderated and you have to apply. Most don't allow doctor names, but once on the group, you can ask for doctors in a certain area and ask people to email you privately.

To find your state group, go to

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/statenamelyme

Type your state name and lyme as one word, like this -

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/newyorklyme

South Carolina is the only state that needs a hyphen between the statename

and lyme, e.g. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/southcarolina-lyme

This explains the MEDICAL “POLITICS” AROUND LYME and why you need an ILADS-educated or ILADS-member LLMD (and there are also some ILADS-member LL NDs (naturopathic doctors):

www.clinicaladvisor.com/Controversy-continues-to-fuel-the- Lyme-War/article/117160/

You should also be evaluated for co-infections. Not all tests are great in that regard, either, but a good LLMD can evaluate you and then guide you in testing.

Be sure to download Igenex’s required form IF you haven’t called for Igenex to send you THEIR test kids!

MD, DO, ND, AC, DC are all fine** must sign, date, and show diagnosis code on there why he’s ordering the test.

Optional tests include: co-infection panel for your area of country and PCR whole blood

Igenex is pre-pay/out of network for most insurances. If you are on medicare, Igenex will file the paperwork & it's free to you.
