I am going to see the Lyme specialist I saw 8 years ago next week. However, I was told by the nurse that they do IV 3X a week instead of daily as I did 8 years ago which helped me become symptom free. Does anyone know why they may do it every othe day instead of daily? Is there new evididence that it works better. The use 900mg of cleocin 2x a day, three times a week. I am afraid to be off antibiotics for one day.

Thanks!

Dorothy

Do you do IV Rocephin? I was thinking of doing oral biaxin and doxy the days I am off the antibiotics IV. I am not sure why I can not just do IV daily. I am wondering if there is a theory behind a few days a week.

Hi Dorothy,

I'm so sorry you have relapsed. I hope you feel better soon.

I have heard two theories, but there may be more. The first theory is that it helps your body be able to tolerate the antibiotics for a longer amount of time. The second theory is that the break makes the bacteria perceive the environment as safe and they drop their protective devices and are easier to kill.

Hope this helps,

Lara

How is that working out for you? How long have you been doing the IV treatment?

I've been doing the IV since the end of May. I do IV Ceftriaxone 2x a day for 4 days, and on my 3 days off I take Flagyl. My joint pain is gone, but I am still dealing with the fatigue.

Maybe ask you doctor about adding an antibiotic from a different catagory for your off days if you are feeling uncomfortable?
