I have read that hair bleaching is a side effect of plaquenil. I've been on it for about 3 months and am starting to notice blonde hairs on my arms and head. Is this serious? Should I call the dr? I don't know what its doing to my body to change my hair color. Weird. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi - I'm new here and new to Lupus. Ughh! I am only on my 2nd month of Plaquenil (and prednisone). My hair, eyebrows and eyelashes are very dark brown. When I took off my mascara last night, I did a double take. My eyelashes looked light brown, almost dirty blonde color. I just read where the plaquenil can do that. I PRAY MY HAIR DOESN"T START CHANGING TOO! Clairol here I come! I'm 37 with no grey but, I might turn blonde???? Yikes!

Ya my hair is still getting lighter. I forgot to ask dr about it yesterday. I will probably have to call him just to make sure that I don't need to worry.

Hi, I'm new here. My daughter took Plaquenil the entire time she fought lupus. It is, I must say, the least dangerous and least unpleasant of the treatments for this disease. It has been around since WWII, so it has a long history to draw from. My daughter also took Imuran early on, and moved on to Cellcept, which worked well for her for years. She refused Cytoxan due to its toxicity and threat to her fertility. No matter what treatment you try, PLEASE make sure that you get your bloodwork done as directed. There is a delicate balance between chemo drugs and Prednisone levels, as one's goes up, the other is decreased.

The reason I want to impress this upon you is that my daughter hated the "moonface" (aka cushingoid syndrome) caused by the Prednisone, so she refused to increase her dose last year as directed when her white count fell, and other bloodwork got bad. She developed sepsis while in the hospital in January, and died because she couldn't fight the infection. I am still crying, and miss my girl, my best friend.

Wow i am so so sorry to hear about your daughter,

My name is Johnny and i a pastor in the Philippines which also has SLE Lupus i pray the peace of Christ over you and your precious family. I had Lupus for about 5 years now and i know it can really be rough but what truly breaks my heart is seeing women and children going through it or like in your case losing a child due to it.

They say time heals all wounds. well for what its worth i just want you to know how sorry i truly am and that your precious daughter is peacefully resting at this very moment in no pain or any kind of suffering.

May God truly hold both you and yours

Johnny

Hello,

Thank you for your kind words. I am so thankful to have found this site- I pray that my participation here will bring me the peace I need. So much of my life revolved around my children when they were growing up, and around my daughter until her death. We planned our day by how she felt- so I'm at a loss as to what to do with myself. I'm not fit company for friends right now. Luckily, I start a new job tomorrow, so hopefully that will keep me busy enough to make it through the workday without tears.

One good thing happened last night- I prayed that my girl would come to me in my dreams, as today is my first birthday without her. Early this morning, I had a dream that she was here- I ran to her and told her that I knew she would not forget me today. I am so thankful for that gift. Here is a picture of my girl.

Take care,

Judi jesse

Wow you’re your precious daughter was so beautiful and yes I believe that also Sister that God answers our prayers or speaks to us through dreams and visions. You see God is showing you that Judy will never die because she lives on within your heart.

Peace in Christ

Johnny
