I too gained 80 lbs. from the steroids.Sad

It seems like I have tried everything to loose the weight but without success. I was doing Pilates everyday but evendually it took its toll on my body. I hurt to much to do that anymore.

I stopped taking the steroids 2 yrs ago but still the weight wont come off. I spoke to my doctor about it and she is supposed to talk to me tomorrow about what I possibly can do.

I know how you feel and I wish I could help more. But your not alone.

I also gained alot of weight. In 2004 my doctor put me on a chicken-fish and greens diet along with exercising on my fitness machine. I lost 50 pounds but it took me at least 2 years but I think its because I was on prednisone. I was very sick in August of 07 and my doctor bumped my prednisone up to 60 mgs. for about 6 months and now dropping down and on 2 mgs. but I gained 20 pounds back and no matter what I do I cannot lose the weight. I still feel pretty good that I've kept 30 pounds off. My doctor wants me off of prednisone which I do to but my body is aching. So still working on my machine and for the most part watching what I eat but can't lose the 20 pounds.

I was diagnosed in 2008 i weighed in at 250 and now i am a depressing 355 i'm so depressed about it its wierd how it took me 25 years to be 250 and only a matter of 9 months to gain 155 pounds god i am so discuted with myself i am wondering if i have a thyroid problem? I know im on prednisone but my intire life i have been a big women I have never realy tried to loose weight i am just soooo addicted to food so when put on prednizone trust me that just added to my cravings..

I really do need to loose weight and sometimes at work i will push myself to not be lazy then the next day i pay for it my body says hey what are you thinking, and then im in a flareup for a few days, then i miss work, then im inactive which i believe adds more pounds of fat.. weight is a dangerous thing for me right now, heartackes run on both sides of my family, i don't want to die because i couldn't control my eating habbits, and my weight, i feel like this should be something i can control. i know i cant control my lupus and rhuematoid but dammnit i should be able to control my weight... i am soo mad at myself right now.

thanks for getting back to me. next time you go to your doctor ask him to test you for cushings syndrome. I was told I have that on top of the lupus. they told me I got cushings from all the prednisone I am on. Hope this helps

Maybe you should be tested for your thyroid. Do you write in a journal, I have found that helps me alot. I too have a weight problem and when I am not flaring or in my vertigo state I can exercise at home where no one can see me on my gazelle power plus it is good because there is no weight bearing on your knees you just swing your legs. It is difficult to keep the weight off when your on such powerful drugs not just prednisone but other medications will cause weight gain as well. Were here for you anytime you feel like venting.

Hi everyone. I have a suggestion for the weight, however, I am about 50 pounds more then I want to be. I did gain alot of weight. I gained my when I broke my back do to osteporosis. One day I couldn't take the pain anymore so my doctor sent me to physical therapy. She said that because of my joints from the lupus that I should do a water therapy. I did and lost 2o pounds in 6 weeks. I did eat normal meals but cut out the snacking after 7 oclock at night. I felt so much better. The water therapy helps you feel better as far as joint pain, It exercises you so that you sleep better, and of course you loose the weight. I love it and have a member ship to the local ymca. One thing to remember is this. I bet all of you are thinking to your selves that you would not get caught dead in a swim suit at your weight. Let me encourage you on this issue. I felt the same way. #1 you don't owe anybody anything. If they don't like how you look they can look the other way. #2 you will find a lot of people just like you in the same situation (you might find out that you are the smallest of them). #3 You will also meet people while you are exercising. I did and I enjoyed the company. Did you know? Walking an hour burns of like, 225 calories. If you walk in water for an hour you burn 500 calories. The most important thing about walking in water is you don't hurt while walking in the water. The water takes off the weight and makes you able to move with a lot less weight. I am talking about a warm therapy pool. Just walk brisk for an hour three times a week and watch the weight come off. Good luck.
With God, all things are possible.

I'm in the same boat. My doctor asked if I had given thought to stomach stapling or gastic band surgery. In a word. NO.
