MDJunction to me

"I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia, Bipolar, Anxiety, Post traumatic Syndrome for quite some time and pretty much going it alone. I stumbled across MDJunction by accident. I stayed in the shadows and just watched for four days and then I joined, feeling relieved and excited to have found a safe place with alot of folks that I could relate to . It's proove to be medically and emotionally
helpful to me and now I can't go a day without coming in at least 4 or five times a day! I Love my family here.

I went to the doc today. I am having a bad flare up. She decided to put me on a steroid pack. Something about taking more on the first day or so and then lowering the dose as days pass. I will see a rheumy on the 24th. I have not seen a rheumy yet. I am hoping these steroids work. I need to get on top of this.

I know that steroid treatment is common for lupus. Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as feeling better and side effects?

Thanks Kasey

Usually referred to as a "V-pak" or steroid pak, you take 6 pills the first day and titre down by one pill each day until you take the last pill on the last day.

I've been on this (Medrol) pack a few times. The pack worked for my symptoms and the first few times I did fine. Had more energy and the fatigue was alleviated some. However, the last pak left me restless, sleepless and aggitated. I never know how I will respond on these paks regarding mental/emotional status; just know they have always taken care of the problem at issue. I have to add, however, that I am now on a daily low-dose steroid regimine (have other chronic illness that relies on all my meds combined for overlapping complex symptomology).

Individuals react uniquely to these paks, so take in what you read here, but know that you may tolerate this pak well.

Peace out.

I figured out after talking with the pharmacist that I am on 40mg for 3 days, 30mg for3 days, 20mg for3 day 10mg for3 days and then half a tab for the following two weeks till I see the rheumy. So I guess It is a month that I will be on it. I sure hope that it does something good for me. I am awake because my son woke up not being able to breathe, As he says his nose is snuffly. Waiting for his meds o take affect so we can go back to sleep.

You will notice a difference in the pain while on this medication. I have been on and off prednisone for l5 years. Finally this year my rheumy doctor wants to tapper me completely off. My high at one point was 60 for about 5 months (thats alot) and I hated it but for my lupus I needed it. Right now I'm on 2 mgs. and in a huge flare and finally called the doctor because the nerve pain is getting overwhelming so she bumped me up to 40 for three days and than back to two and I know that by Friday I should be feeling better until I see her next Tuesday. We will me going over medication changes. So you will notice a difference. Good Luck

I have been on this Steroid Pak for six days now. I think that I am having more energy and I am not quite a exhausted as long as I dont over due it. Yesterday I went to the grocery with my HubbyMan. We went to Aldis first and I walked the whole store. About thirty minutes pushing the cart. Which was planned then we went to WalMart. They did not have any moblity scooters available. I was already in pain and weak from walking Aldis. I told him I would get the few things in Health and beauty and meet him at the front. He was coming there just as I was. My few things to his grocery cart full. I was walking slowly and painfully.

Anyway I was down for it when I got home to bed and all that, to rest. I went to bed at about midnight, woke at 4 am and couldnt go back to sleep. I did some more organizing this morning We just moved here a month ago)while my family went to church. Took another rest this afternoon. Pretty wiped out again.

These are things I really couldnt do b/4. I am still getting so wiped out tho. Will the steroid help that as time goes by?

I have been cuttin back on smoking. Trying to quit as I cant breathe and get so winded so easily. Oh I did transfer laundry today and wasnt quite as winded as b/4 tho. I got very stressed by something that happened here today and smoked three in an hour and had been doing well to go a couple of hours in between. Back on my gum now tho.

Discovering that what happened today is trigger was a break thru in avoiding that particular stressor.

This was sorta an update but with more questions than answers I guess. So what do you think?
