Hi everyone,

I am new to this group but not new to lupus, I have had my diagnosis for about 8 years. I just recently had a Miscarriage at 10 1/2 weeks- testing was done because I had a previous m/c and this baby would have been a normal baby girl- the OB Dr thinks they should have put me on aspirin and heparin therapy to prevent blood clots in the placenta which they believed caused the miscarriage. My question is this...has anyone had this experience and what is the best way to be an advocate for myself. I feel like the ob and the Rheumatologist didnt communicate and it resulted in a great loss for us! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

-Carrie

Carrie,

I am very sorry for your loss.

Have you been tested for antiphospholipid syndrome? It's also referred to as "sticky blood" syndrome. Here is a link that will tell you all about this syndrome which can be in and of itself or connected to a disease like lupus. It mentions blood clotting in the placenta of pregnant mothers as a particular problem caused by antiphospholipid syndrome. http://rarediseases.about.com/od/rarediseasesa/a/120504.htm

Lynne-

Thank you so much for your reply, No they have not tested me as far as I know. My OB said it didnt matter if the test was neg or positive she was going to be proactive next time and she already put me on aspirin and if I get Pregnant again I will also need to take heprin. Hopefully that will do the trick. Although I am still not sure why the OB and/or Rheumatologist didnt recommend this before, knowing my history. I guess I will never know. I just called to make an appt w/ the rheumatologist to discuss the whole mess. Thanks again for your support!

I was diagnosed with APS while pregnant. My doctors had me on aspirin. I now take couadin and still have had 3 strokes. I hope things go well for you.It is so hard to compare symptoms and treatments. It would just make it so easy if lupus had set symptoms. But, it doesn't, and every doctor has their own way of dealing with it.
