Hi,

My name is Helen. I have been searching the web for information on Lupus. My husband is 52 years old and for the past year & a half had been having some really odd things happening and I think that he might have Lupus. Last year he started getting dizzy off and on. One day while he was driving he had a vertigo attack which resulted in a minor auto accident. Luckily he ran off the road and hit a fence - no one else was involved and thank God he was not hurt. The following day he just fell down face first on my livingroom floor. Over the next couple of months he had a few more vertigo attacks "drop attacks" and off & on suffers from "brain fog". Because of the vertigo, drop attacks and tinitus in one ear they diagnosed him with Menier's Disease. Just prior to his accident he had had a couple of bouts of sever pain in his lower back that radiated around his side to the front. It happened a couple of times but each time it was a different side (L or R). We thought he might have kidney stones but when tested they did not find any. In the past several months he has been struck with severe pain in either his wrists, elbow knees or ankles. One day it will be the left knee, a week later his right. The pain will alternate joints. Another thing is occasionally over the past 6 months he will wake up in the middle of the night purfusly sweating. And the past 3 or 4 nights he has been complaining of chills and carrying a low grade fever. In doing research on lupus I came across a picture of a man with the butterfly rash on his face. I showed it to 3 of our kids and they were - "that's Dad" When he has been out in the sun he has always gotten what looks like rosey triangles on his cheeks and a rosey nose - though it is not a raised rash it looks just like this man's photo. He does have an appointment to see our primary care doctor and we have the name of a good rhemotologist so we are hoping that we can get him into see that doctor too.

Has anyone suffered from any of these symptoms?

I really think that when they diagnosed him with Menier's Disease that he was misdiagosed or that maybe if the diagnosis is correct that he has something else going on also. Any information that anyone can give us would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Helen

God bless you both. Stick to it and don't give up. You'll find the right answers soon. Just be persistant. I now that Lupus is harder to diagnose in men then in women but that's as far as my knowledge goes for lupus in men.
From the last time I was on I was told by my gynecologist that I had endometriosis and I had to have a D&C and a new procedure called Novasure.

Thanks for the encouragement! I don't know how I did it but I got the dates mixed up and his doctor's appointment was actually today (thank goodness for reminder calls from the doctor's office!). The doctor agrees that there is something going on. She is expecially concerned with the fever, night sweats and joint pains. We have a really good doctor and she said she would keep testing until she knows what is going on and if she can't find it then. She ordered a chest exray and some blood work - ANA,CMP, RH, (this one was hard to read her writting) U2IC ACID, PSA, CBC c- dix, TSH, LIPD PANEL, ESR. I don't know what most of those are but going to go do some reseach. If anyone knows what any of these are, please let me know.

Thanks,

Helen

Well lipid panel is for the cholesterol- good and bad, plus triglycerides. Esr is sedimentation rate and that I believe measures inflammation. CBC measures your red and white blood cells. Your hemoglobin and hematocrit. And TSH is the thyroid test. I hope that helps. I don't know what the others are sorry.

Ana is Anti Nuclear Antibodies I know this one very well it's the one that has always been extremely high for me with my testing. For most of these tests if you go to Google.com and type in the test your looking for it will give you a discription. What I did was just typed ESR test... and you get a whole list of topics to choose from. Good Luck. And hope they figure out what's wrong with him I'm still going through the tests and they have been doing them for 12 yrs now. I hope they find out what's wrong with him faster than they have for me. But I have had to bounce around with doctors so that has not helped me. You sound like you have a great doc and she will stick to it.

Thanks Cads!

I did talk to a friend of mine that worked for a doctor and she was able to tell me what some of the tests were for and I did go on a medical website. Now it is the long wait till we get the results. He is still carrying the fever and this week seems like every day one joint or another is hurting, but at this point all we can do is take it day by day till we get this figured out.

It really helps to come here and be able to talk to people who understand what we are going through!

Thanks!

Helen
