Last weekend I was outside for my daughters field hockey game. I did put some some screen on but I am thinking maybe not enough. Because a day or two later it started again, the rash on my neck. I want to know if it looks to anyone else like a discoid rash outbreak. please I need some advice. If the pics don't end up on here I did put them in my profile please look at them and tell me what you think. Thanks Kelley

it could very well be a lupus rash. Have you told your Rheumy about this? you could also go see a Dermatologist and they could scrape this and send it off for a biopsy. Please let us know if you make these appointments as we will be waiting to hear.

the worse part of the whole thing is I don't have insurance, so when I finally got to see the dermatologist and the rheumatologist I did not have any rash. the dermatologist did some blood work and said my ANA was negative so kinda passed me on. I am having an EMG done this Tues. because of the muscle and joint pain I am having in my legs. I just don't know when I will get to see a dermatologist again so I was just trying to get advice and suggestions from others. I am so frustrated this has been going on since November of 2010 and as understanding as my wife is I think she is getting frustrated with me and the fact that I am always in pain and exhausted. I am just having a very bad couple of days.

Oh man, that sucks. It totally looks like discoid, from what I remember. I never thought to take photos. Did you bring the photos with you? They are pretty clear. It pisses me off that the tests don't reveal what is really going on, like when your car doesn't make that noise you brought it in for. Hang in there, and as soon as it comes back, go back to the doctor. I had been given a cream the first time it showed up, and it went away. When it came back, I didn't treat it anymore, just so the Rheumatologist could see it for herself. She got me to the dermatologist, where I got the skin biopsy. It came back Actinic Keratosis, and I fought so hard with that Dermatologist, telling him it was Lupus, and he kept telling me it was not, and that I should go back for blood work, because 'it's not Lupus'. Whatever. I got me a good Rheumatologist, who referred me to a good Dermatologist, and I'm never going back to that one ever again.

Hi gpatrick. My discoid rash is around the neck area where the sun is exposed, but it does not have a red ring around it. Have you seen a dermatologist to get it biopsied? There is a cream in the pharmacies that contain a contain cortisone cream and an anti-fungal mixed in one. Perhaps you could give that a try after you have seen the dermatologist to get it diagnosed.

gpatrick........I know it gets so frustrating when we keep going to the doctors and they still don't know what we have, it took three years before they found I have Lupus and by the way I am ANA Negative....my Rheumy looks at the whole picture and not go by labs alone. To me it looks like a Lupus rash but you really need to be seen. I wish you the best.
