It seems like every doctor has their own view on prednisone. I was on it for 5 years. Then I moved an my new doctor took me off. It was hard. I felt so bad. But, when my body got used to not having it I was ok. I can understand why my new doctor took me off. Now when I have a flair she has something to use. Granted I did gain a lot of weight well on prednisone but it was better then dealing with more problems.

I've been on prednisone since I was 2002.My highest dosage has been up to 40mg and lowest has been 5mg.I'm really starting to realize that it truly helps me when I do have a flare.I use to take breaks (yes, meaning stop taking them completly) after taking them really good for a month or so but I stopped that many, many months ago after my flares started getting more often than normal. When I first got on them my cheeks blew up but went back to normal about 3 months later.I've been on them for this long now and don't have any weight changes. Weird, I know but I really only see a huge difference when the dosage is extremely high for me which is 25 or more.I don't think I'll be able to live without them either. Have a great night!

I'm not taking Prednisone. But, I had to comment on this post. AnnChick- You really made me smile with your comment of- 'podgy belly that wiggles when i walk'

Thanks for the smile.

Even though I don't take Prednisone, I'm well aware of the effects it has one someone. But, we each must do what works best for us, and we are all different.

Hang in there all, we're in this fight together!

I have been on prednisone for 2 wks now. My joint pain and swelling is pretty much gone. I am able to walk again. I wish the dr would have given it to me sooner. I started jenny craig again to hopefully help with any weight gain from the pills. I started on 30 mg and am down to 20. We all have to what helps us live our lives , hopefully pain free...

Use what works my darlings- we have to grab every bit of life we can! yes there are downsides but the good points are that i can hug my son and walk to the shops, and even work (just about)

I hate to think of people in pain as i walk in there shoes everyday.

I totally feel your pain. I have been on steroids continually for the last year. I have been on steroids several times before, but not longer than a month and low doses. I am currently taking 20mg and have been for the last 3 months going through a tough first pregnancy. I started with 10mg at first and had to increase the further along in my pregnancy. I had to stop working in August, being unable to go to the bathroom at times alone, and using a cane to walk small areas. I am unable to wing off now because I have a bad episode with walking although the baby has been out for 2 months. Good luck to u!

Congratulations on your new little boy!!! Prednisone is like a miracle drug because it does let you live life without constant pain and I know for me I am able to enjoy my family more and just the little everyday things that we can't do without it. Monisedurr please keep us posted on how your doing.
